News arrives today that in an attempt to grab some of the plaudits Nintendo has gained with the Wii Remote and it's motion sensitive controls, Microsoft is well on the way to finishing off the development of a Wii Remote rival, and that it will be released before the end of 2008.

The Nintendo Wii and its motion-sensitive Wii Remote controller have, undeniably, taken the videogame world by storm since their arrival in late 2006. Sony, meanwhile, has failed to ignite a similar level of excitement with its tilt-responsive SixAxis controller for the PlayStation 3, which leaves Microsoft the only player of ‘the big 3′ left to jump on the motion-control bandwagon. However, if a report discovered today is to be believed, Bill Gates’ company has plans to release a Wii Remote rival for the Xbox 360 by the end of the year.

You know what I would think would totally kick ass.

Has anyone ever pointed their controller at the screen as if its a gun?

That would be cool if you could switch between a normal contoller then aim it like a gun too. It could be used in stuff like last stand for C0D4. That would be awesome because it would be like your actually pulling out a pistol and the kills you get would be more satisfying lol.

I don't think Microsoft should bother to be honest. Both companies have a game market to target, and both have met. For Microsoft to try to enter into Nintendo's territory would be suicide imo.

Also, I don't have a clue how they would implement this.

I imagine if that did this, it'd be like the eye toy. There'd be a handful of games to come out that use it.

sorry microsoft but if it even looks a bit like the wii remote then i have to say that's pathetic.

every console has their own idea for games, apparently just cause the Wii is owning the 360 right now,one reason because of the remotes, then microsoft is trying to copy it?great even microsoft can't even admit defeat for once...

please make your own "thing,"just don't copy the wii remote cause then that can lead to trouble and negative attention to microsoft.

Can you please explain how Wii is owning?

It's winning in console sales...but that's not all there is to a game platform, it's not where the money comes from, hell PS3 and 360 are losing tons each console they sell. They make it up in game sales...which the Wii doesn't really have.

On the contrary, Wii has two of the top selling games right now!

There's no way that's real; it's just a rumor. But to think that I thought it was bad when Sony added motion to the PS3 controller...this is just a blatant rip off!

At this point, a motion controller for 360 would be nothing but a gimmick. The Wiimote succeeds in that it is the primary focus of the console, period. Everyone who has a Wii has the Wiimote, and with the lack of processing power and graphics, the only reason to buy or make a Wii game is to utilize the Wii controls. This would not be the case with a 360mote, since only a small portion of the gaming community would be willing to buy the extra attachment. Game developers would not support something so small scale, and would make no games for the thing. Just like every other control peripheral in gaming's history, it would have a few fun games and fade into the dust.

Microsoft, you missed the boat this go around, just focus your attention on your next console.

If I want a Wiimote I'll buy a Wii. I wouldn't even consider buying this if it were true.

IF it were true. I don't understand why anyone would come in here and lecture Microsoft or anything like this was just officially announced.

Microsoft will get ripped to shit for this, what next Microsoft EyeToy and Singar! a complete rip on the widely sucessful SingStar i mean they could do this for every succesful game/system that needs a peripheral, with this remote are they going to try and buy out Nintendo to get Mario Kart and release the steering wheel.

Yea I mean not like you would catch sony jumping on the motion sensing band wagon. Or trying to jump on the achievment bandwagon. Now would you?

Sony didn't copy something like this they just added motion sensing in a new different way to Nintendo. Thats perfectly fine. This i a blatant rip off to Wii remote.

Gyroscopic Accelerometer is not motion sensing it is tilt... if it was motion where is the motion sensor, there isn't one is there, oops i guess Sony did copy Nintendo but they left out the main component, stupid fools.

Wow, you took this insane rumor and really ran with it, Existenz. It's actually pretty damn annoying. Paint picture = Microsoft will release a peripheral for EVERY game, will buy Nintendo and make Mario Kart an exclusive. Coolio.

What, Final Blade, do you honestly think those motion controls had nothing to do with the Wii's announcement?

Edit: Whoa. I just found, not created at all, a Sonymote. It's official.

OHOOHHOHO GG MICROSOFT Blatantly rip off an original idea from another company and rearrange the buttons, BOOM instant seller.

I predict this will be a complete failure, if it isn't delayed 10 times.

Haha lol, Look at all the nintendo idiots nto realising that this is a RUMOUR AND WILL LIKELY BE SHUT DOWN BY MS THEMSLEVES. Nindento did not invent motion sensing.

Does that make you a Microsoft idiot for saying it would "totally kick ass" in the first post?

No. I was not saying anything about a wiimote copy. I was saying if anyone has aimed their controller like a gun at the screen. Like in those arcade shooter games.

Why do they have to copy the Wii? They should just leave the console the way it is, instead of copying others' ideas.

The picture is just a sketch from the "source", showing the concept of what he saw. It isn't supposed to be a professional rendering or anything like that.

Wasn't it a Microsoft rep that said motion control was stupid, and had no reason to invest in it? So what does this mean?

    Dai Apr 10, 08
Like most, I both regard this as an unlikely rumor and would view such a peripheral as doomed from the start. What can I say that other people haven't? BBB said all I could have. Nice work, man.

I think the real question isn't- 'Will Microsoft try to give the 360 motion controls?'. Better put, its- 'Do 360 owners want motion controls?' If most don't, this'll be a complete failure. The causal market has its eyes on the Wii, Wii Sports, and the other games of such kind. There's no way MS could steal that momentum. Though I doubt this is true, Microsoft should focus more on fixing its image to the consumer as the unleashers of RRoD. And the consoles themselves, of course. In spite of system refinements that failure rate is still too high.
Besides, they'd be both torn to pieces by criticism over a blatant copy that will most likely fail.

And yes, MusiKon, back in 06' at least one MS rep stated that they were 'interesting, but didn't imagine much success for it and thus MS wouldn't be doing it.' Of course a couple of others have said similar things. Instead of such useless endeavors they need to keep the 360 where its at... The system that people go to for Halo, other such shooters, and non-motion sensing controls. Heh...
