Despite 70% of 15 million people voting for the Prince of Persia to play the lead role in the upcoming PoP movie trilogy, Orlando Bloom has been awarded the role.

"Movie hunk" > Real life Prince of Persia. We love you, Hollywood!

HOLLYWOOD - Movie hunk Orlando Bloom has landed the lead role in Disney's new Prince of Persia adventure trilogy, in a deal reportedly worth $40 million.

The 31-year-old star of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has allegedly beaten competition from Zac Efron to take the top role in the big-screen adaptation of the popular computer game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

The first movie in the trilogy, to be directed by Jerry Bruckheimer, is due to begin filming in July in Morocco.

Oh damn it. That would have been awesome to see the real Prince of Persia in the movie; a little more realism can go a long way.

Indeed...now they go with some Hollywood pretty boy to get more profit, those bastards only think about the money.

cause im sure the real prince of persia was such a good actor right haha. I would much rather have someone who can actualy act and has proven himself in past movies take a roll instead of a guy who is the a real prince.

Sure, but surely the Prince of Persia must have some idea as to how to act himself.

Depends on the given role...all the reall PoP had to do was say a few lines and be a bad-ass silent killer...it's not that hard to pull off.

Obviously you missed the part of the the article where it says that the real prince of Persia is an actor, a director, can do swordfighting and looks like the prince from the games.

That's exactly the reason why 70% of the 5 million people surveyed wanted the real prince to play the role.

        - - - - -

Anyways, it turns out Orlando will NOT play the Prince of Persia

I would totally have paid to seen the actual prince of persia in a prince of persia movie. Orlandlo Bloom? *barf*. This goes back to a comment I made before about hot shot directors / actors trying to direct a film; give it up to the fans to produce Then again the actual prince may not have been able to do the movie..meh

Deadman. You're pretty ingorant if that comment was serious.

And I would've been happier with the real prince acting but I guess I dont mind Bloom much. >__>

I agree with deadman and jeterocks. I mean suriously, who actually believes the real PoP was anything great, when Orlando Bloom is such a better actor alot of people like him, he made movies like PoTC and LOTR become icons, surely he has more experience. At the end of the day Im glad they gave it to him. Besides seriously when has there ever been any realism in movies, half the people playing parts in movies from games or comics sucks. This is actually the best choice for an actor to play him. Since which do people know more, the real PoP or Orlando Bloom? Guarantee you that most know the latter than the former. Hell i didn't know there actually was a real PoP.

        Subzer0 Apr 8, 08
Then I guess you are more ignorant than I thought because I bet you haven't even seen movies other countries have to offer and yet here you are to judge that Persians can't act. How old are you anyways?

And GG for thumbing me down. Man, talk about abusing the thumbs up/down feature.

      Contradiction much?

Even if it was a joke it was a poor one at that. I'm done debating with someone who hasn't even matured yet.

You dumb *bleep*, I was repeating what you said, "ignorant." How is it ignorant to prefer one actor over another?

Please show me where I was being immature. You must be one of those losers that use their age as a way of thinking they are right about everything because in reality they are just some nobody who have nothing going for themselves. How old are you anyways?

    Jaw Knee Apr 8, 08
*bleep* yeah. This is the overall best choice anyway. I don't care if the "real prince of persia" is good at everything the character is. Orlando looks just like the guy.

Zac Efron? Wow he would have been a horrible choice for the role.

The content you have requested is temporarily unavailable

Can someone spell out what exactly happened.

So far I've figured out that an actual actor was voted as a better actor for the role in the Prince of Persia film.

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me.

Plus Orlando Bloom has proven himself as Legolas. I think it's a good solid plan.

Who were the choices? so far I got the "actual" Prince of Persia, Orlando Bloom, and Zac Efron.

Pretty stupid of Hollywood to ignore the 70% votes of wanting the real prince to star. I guess Hollywood feels more secure with a known actor rather than some mysterious prince form Iran.

    reaver11 Apr 8, 08
I'm glad they got a real actor to play the part. Playing the Prince requires more than royalty. You need acting skills and agility, both of which Bloom has proven to have in the past. I don't know what the real Prince's acting skills are like, but I'd rather have a seasoned actor play the part.

    Can't wait for the movie.

      That's what I thought.

I was seeing things like this "Sure, but surely the Prince of Persia must have some idea as to how to act himself."

But I'm pretty sure the real Prince of Persia's daily routine doesn't involve time travel.

        Miss Razz Apr 8, 08
*sigh* The real prince of Persia (Prince David K. Zandi) is an actor, is an expert in sword-fighting and fencing, and looks like the prince of Persia from the games.

Tbh, I'd get more of a kick watching the real prince act as the game prince, rather than Orlando Bloom. But maybe that's just me.

I guess it looks like they're going for the "let's attract young teen girls" aim. >_>

Its called smart business. How many people know this guy? The real PoP? Bet you not alot. Just because he acts there doesn't mean he fits the role. Orlando Bloom made icons of movies from Lord of The Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean, so the obvious choice would be Him. I don't even know this Real PoP and i doubt he would be good. Glad they stuck to actors of quality That is known around the globe.

          Miss Razz Apr 8, 08
Smart business? If Disney were interested in "smart business" then they would have picked the prince already. 70% of the 15 million people surveyed wanted the prince to play the role. Guess how many wanted Orlando to play the role? 8%

It's hardly the "obvious choice" when Hollywood ask the world to vote for the actor they want to see, only to ignore the majority vote.

          Final Blade Apr 8, 08
They asked people to vote to see what they think, but ultimately the choice resides in the Director anyway. As for the "why vote then" Well just to see other opinions. But like i said its up to the director at the end of the day. Who he feels is right for the job, and will bring in more money. Logically Orlando Bloom can do this, not so much for the PoP imo. Like i said the world doesn't all know this dude, but the majority knows Orlando, thats like 800 million maybe more kinda makes that 15 million insignificant.
        • 0
          Miss Razz Apr 8, 08
Well if they think that 15 million people are insignificant, then they shouldn't have asked for 15 million people's opinions.
The majority of 15 million people wanted the real prince. Whose to say that the majority of 80 million people wouldn't feel the same way? Or 100 million? Or 500 million?

Popularity =/= a better actor. I'm sure Zac Efron is also alot more popular than the real-life prince, and I'm sure he'd rake in alot of money, but that doesn't mean he's better suited to the role or that a director should choose him.

Having the real prince play the part would have been nice. But I also liked Bloom in LOTR and Kingdom of heaven. SO I do think he will do a good job. And he does kinda look like the prince.

Point to you, sir. Maybe they couldn't get anyone to, what with the whole, America destroying Persia thing. Hehe.
    • 2
      tekmosis Apr 8, 08
This is the problem with North American directors. They all seem to ignore the racial origins of the characters. For example,

      Dragon Ball Z, movie:
      Goku - Caucasian
      Whole cast - Not Japanese

      Akira Movie:
Neo Tokyo will now be Neo Newyork
      Cast - Not Japanese

      My Sassy Girl, NA Remake
Cast - None that are Korean.

Watch, someone will do a StarCraft movie and Zerglings will be monkeys, not Aliens
