Japanese gaming researchers have developed a type of pills to aid marathon gamers with sore eyes and fatigue. Gaming has now become such a serious business that now tournament gamers can turn to similar 'doping' enhancements as professional sportsmen to increase their performance. Maybe one day we'll even see a GDC, Gaming Doping Commission, that ensures gamers aren't using illicit enhancement for professional tournaments.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Gaming addicts with sore eyes and tired brains may be able to perk up with "Game Suppli," a new Japanese supplement developed specifically for the country's thousands of fanatic players.

"We concentrated on developing a supplement for those who love games," reads the advert for the pills on www.cybergadget.co.jp, a Web site that sells a range of accessories for video game fans.

I thought this was quite amusing when I first read it. I immediately though of drug tests at game tournaments. Although that'll most likely never happen.

What I'm curious about though is whether or not there are any long term effects of cumulative effects of these pills. This company may find themselves in trouble if there are.

I heard about them developing and releasing this sort of stuff.

Yeah, one wonders if they'll ban the use at game tournaments? They really should. Drug tests might go a bit far, but anyone found using it (or even having the stuff) should be banned. They should administer a drug test before tournaments too. If one doesn't submit to the test, they won't be allowed to compete. They'd ensure anonymity and privacy and such >_>

Pills? They're just health suppliments. Not drugs.

Well let's define drugs shall we?

    quote
A drug, broadly speaking, is any chemical substance that, when absorbed into the body of a living organism, alters normal bodily function
    I'd say it's a drug

Pfft. The only thing in the pills that apparently "alters normal bodily function" is the DHA - which is the stuff in breast milk and fish oil that improves a person's attention and vision.

You'd get the same result taking fish oil suppliments. They're just trying to get money off people by saying that these pills are specifically made for gamers, when they are most likely just the same sort of health suppliments you can buy at a Health Store or Supermarket.

I thought they were just glorified caffiene pills at first but I read both articles and I got more of an impression that they affect the mind. And this thing about removing eye soreness means they have an effect on muscles as well.

I can't help but laugh. I mean thsi is going to make the problems that they do suffer from worse as time goes on. It's one of the stupid things they could have done. Whatever happened to taking a good old break from a game!

    Going outside never hurt anyone.

    ...or did it?

I went outside once and caught a cold, never doing that again.

That's just plain unlucky i must say. I've never heard of such a case though.

You know colds aren't actually from the cold. They jsut happen more frequently in winter because people are often indoors together making it easier for bacteria and viruses to spread.

Just thought i'd throw that out there

I did know that, the kid definition is that if you go outside on a cold day for pretty much too long you will get it. Which is why catching a cold in summer is worse then a cold caught in winter.

For some reason I can see that happening too. The gaming world is starting to take over big time.

Though, don't they think that is taking it a bit to far I mean gaming pills for crying out loud.

Haha, I can see the future.

"Japanese videogame professionals charged with recreational drug use during tournaments."

    Or something along those lines.
