The top 100 best selling games of the past 12 months.

Eureka | April 11, 2008 | News | Misc
The guys at next.gen.biz compiled a huge list of the top 100 best selling of the past 12 months. The list doesn't really contain any surprises, but it's certainly nice to see that original games like Bioshock and Assassin's Creed sold well. But, as usual, this list is filled with terrible licensed games that soild millions of copies, and that's definitely not good at all.
The common knowledge still applies — just like last year, it still looks likes the best way to find success is to pump millions of dollars into an exclusive title of superlative quality, or snap up a license and shoot a version to every viable platform there is. This year a third route has opened up; making an inexpensive Wii and/or DS game and hoping it strikes a chord in the consciousness of the consumer. While the data does show that this plan was successful multiple times in 2007, this is a crowded field based on the rapidly depreciating novelty value of the Wii. It is likely that such strategies will not be fruitful in the future.

Some surprises there, I'd say. I thought that DMC4 made over $2 million though. So many friggin' video game-based movies, though...people need to learn not to buy those.

Anyways, glad to see CoD4 making it to numero uno, and SvR '08 hitting #13 wasn't half-bad, either...although that was a let-down.

It was certain that Call of Duty 4 was top of the listings, after all it was easily the best game of the year ^-^

I would be interested in seeing the Japanese sales data along side with this, since it would skew away from the FPS and Maddens on the list.

And no Zack and Wiki. Wii owners should be ashamed, buying crap like Boogie over a real gem of a game.

There's some shit games on that list even in the top 50.....no wonder it's tough getting decent games from developers when they can sell shit for a few quick bucks.

Wait some of that doesn't make sense. Uncharted has sold a million and Motorstorm has sold over 2 million. I can't believe Harry potter has sold more then Oblivion.

I guess they went by a short period of time since each game's release, either that or they didn't count worldwide.

And nice to see AC and COD4 on top of that list. ^__^
