Capcom are obviously tired of hearing that their new game Resident Evil 5 is racist. So the game's producer Takeuchi explains why it is set in Africa.
He also briefly discusses the making of RE5 ...

Japan’s Famitsu magazine recently conducted a video interview with Jun Takeuchi, the producer of Resident Evil 5, and we now have the video complete with English subs for your viewing pleasure! In addition to the interview, the video include a brief introduction into the history of the Resident Evil series, many first-ever shots of actual gameplay, and also includes some behind the scenes development sneak peeks.

quote Takeuchi
...we really wanted to show the origins of the virus. So for the setting we thought, how about using the place where humankind was born?...we thought we would use Africa, which is now called the birthplace of humanity, as the model.

You know...just saying "We wanted to use an exotic, never-before-used setting to make a fresh experience" instead of an overly sympathetic comment like that would've worked much better.

Not for the close minded Christians.

        Wait...what?

Could you be any more of an idiot?

          1) It was a joke obviously.
          2) Notice I didn't say "all Christians," just "close minded" ones. Notice the difference? If not, well, then my point probably already got across (or not, depending on how you read into it).

Well shoot, in that case I should say it wouldn't work on the "close minded" black people also. Does that sound about right for you?

You're exactly right. There are ignorant black people who will take this game the wrong way. Didn't Al Sharpton speak out about the game a while back? Around the same time that woman made the hate blog (it's been a while, so I can't remember her name)?

I remember that that woman wasn't even black.

But according to you, only Christians and black people would take this the wrong way, GG.

Now I remember, Kym Platt was her name. And she was indeed Black, hence why she has a blog site called "Ask This Black Woman." (and I was wrong, it was Jesse Jackson, not Al Sharpton)

EDIT: Just to straighten some confusion for future references (because I got mixed up as well), her famous blog for bashing the trailer was not posted on her own site, but instead on Black Looks. So if it needs to be cited, check there.

You're obviously missing my point. Noticed I used the words "close minded" and "ignorant" before? This shows I was not referring to an entire race, but instead a select few. Because we all don't have the same IQ as Stephen Hawking.

Ah she was black, my bad then.

Ok, all I'm saying is your choice of words were unsightly.
You basically attacked one specific group, when literally anyone could take the issue the wrong way.

          ^ Bad wording, but w/e...

Yea *bleep*ing right. I wonder how long it took them to come up with that story.

Good on him for standing up for it and defending it. The whole racism thing is jsut crap honestly. But the way the game is shaping up to be like the interview says it is gonig to be something special ^^.

Great find. As a diehard Resident Evil fan (damn I wish it was called BioHazard here in the states as well, such a better name) I feel that Resident Evil 4 jumped the shark in many ways when it came to the storyline and gameplay.

It certainly wasn't the RE I was used to and I wasn't happy with that. Resident Evil has to involve Umbrella, it's as simple as that. In RE4 Umbrella was nowhere to be found. That was a huge disappointment and the whole presidents daughter thing was a bit cliche too.

Resident Evil 5's story has me interested though from this video. It looks like it's actually going to involve Umbrella in some way and it'll be interesting to uncover Chris' past, a character that I admittedly find quite uninteresting. I always preferred to play as Jill. Actually, I pretty much dislike both Redfields, Claire sucks too.

Anyways, even though the gameplay in Resident Evil 4 went in a completely different direction that I was largely unhappy with, I can't deny how awesome and how much fun Resident Evil 4 was to play. Did I want the slower more horror gameplay style from previous Resident Evils? Hell yes I did, although Resident Evil 4 was an awesome time and Resident Evil 5 looks like even more fun.

I've come to grips with the fact that I will never see my classic Resident Evil game again. That's okay though, because I've always liked the Silent Hill series quite a bit more than RE and it looks like Silent Hill will continue being the same amazing game it has always been.

Tbh, I was hoping he'd flat-out deny the racism issue. It sounded like he was skirting around it. But whatever.

But wasn't the virus originally made at Umbrella? Since when did it originate in the middle of Africa? (unless they're talking about a different virus?)

Unless that was the first place it started, but the first outbreak was at Umbrella.

That's the thing, it started at Umbrella, which means everything they said was a bunch of bull.

      Ah well.
