Counter point to The Exploding Barrel's other article addressing the positive aspects of pre-ordering video games. This article explains how pre-ordering games is a waste of time and only benefits retailers and developers.

You can’t walk into a Gamestop for the past 3 month without an employee forcefully saying “Would you like to reserve a copy of GTA IV?” While having a copy of the game personally reserved might make gamers feel secure, it reality, it’s a completely useless exercise and a waste of time for gamers.

    Duplicate Article Much?

I like pre ordering them because then I know I won't waste the money on something else before it comes out.

      Not duplicate...read more carefully.

This is the original article. That links to the story of the counterpoint.

And if you thought this is a duplicate why post an opinion?

Lol, it's a waste of time? It takes like a total of 20 seconds...of which I usually am trying to kill time.

Absolutely no good reason is given to not reserve games. 5 dollars goes to purchase price.

I didn't get Chronicles of Riddick on launch because I didn't reserve. So I reserve now. I don't feel like I've been ripped off.

I don't preorder games anyway, as it's not practical for me to do so. (For a number of reasons)

This article does help me to feel a little better about being able to get GTA4 though.

Well, in all honesty, I have never pre-ordered a game and nor/neither do I ever plan to, for the moment at least, but like Seproth said it really doesn't take long so I don't agree with the article. Also, Andrew5, I checked the article you linked to and in my honest opinion, I think the author of this GameGrep post would have noticed when the "similar article" question came up if it even did, during submission.

Actually this is a duplicate article as i link to both this article and the other one in my original posting. If you read teh description I said to read both.

    Duplicates piss me off immensely.

I never pre-order games anyways. The only reason I see to pre-order is because the game might sell out, obviously.

This isn't all true. I pre-order games and pay for them fully, then I am guaranteed a copy, and I can just walk in and nab it from them. The one time I did not pre-order a game was Army Of Two... And they were all out at every store, so I had to wait almost a week to get a copy.
