Harvest Moon Creator Makes Negative Comments About Wii

Mishtram | April 13, 2007 | News | Wii DS Gaming Tech/Hardware
Yasuhiro Wada makes a speculative comment that, with a lack of any real exclusive games, the Nintendo DS may end up doing better than the Nintendo Wii. Proof can be seen via the Japanese Top Ratings, which has two games, out of the top thirty, actually coming from the Wii.
Wii Sports is the only game that can be ONLY played on Wii, not on any other console. So future games such as Brain Training on Wii or that type of thing — I don’t think this is such a great idea — as these games are already being played and are very popular on DS… they are not specific to the Wii.

Hmm a bit harsh but I do sort of see where he is coming from, games such as zelda for example didn't really need the Wii to function as evident by the GC version.

I think there are developers out there who are willing to shape experiences that are genuinely "Wii", but its risky to dedicate resources to produce game titles which are more than just "regular" games featuring Wii controls. Perhaps Wada's fear is that you almost have to create "non-games" just to specifically tap into that "Wii" vein, and this will be much harder to do than making the DS non-games which are already popular.

Yeah I can see where he is coming from, I think ideas for Wii interaction will be run dry quickly.

Yeah, the Wiimote isn't as great interaction as something like a Touch Screen. I think the Wii can do well though. Hopefully the Harvest Moon game for the Wii will still be excellent.

I think the Wii will still do well, but the Touch Screen was much more interactive. Harvest Moon will do well with the Wii, granted they have features like a farmer.

Most likely, people will try out games on the Wii and the DS to see which they like better. I do know what he is saying though. I too think it would be better if the games would come out for both the DS and Wii. It would be a lot better for some people prefer the touch screen or the wiimote to the other.

I still think that even though the game isn't exclusively made and can only be played on the Wii, the Wii can enhance the game to a point that nothing else can. It's all up to the consumer I guess.

Lmao, hes got it all wrong.

Theres noo many games for the Wii atm that are like "OMG LUUK QWAT I CN DU WID DA WIIMOET!!!11", we really do NOT need more. The Wii is very popular with families and such as it is, no need to piss off the core gamers even more.

Also, there are plenty of Wii exclusive games out (other than Wii Sports and Wii Play (Red Steel, Excite Truck, WarioWare just to name three off my shelf).

If the Wii is going to compete this generation, we don't need more flowery games that involve you flailing around the living room like you've got a cattle prod up your arse. More AAA games please.

I just rememebered, didn't EA also make some negative Wii comments a while back, then the guy who made them retracted them and totally contridicted himself the day after.

Some creators don't know that the Wii still has more than 5 years ahead. They don't know what they are talking about.
