Grand Theft Auto IV And It's 5 Minutes (PS3) Install...

Krunal | April 16, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
That's right, the 1up Preview was partially done on the PS3 version of the game, and the author of the preview was kind enough to answer a few questions about the game, notedly about the mandatory install. Another thing mentioned by the author was the fact that the R* employees said that the PS3 version was better, however having seen the game side-by-side, he didn't notice any difference...
The one thing I'll clarify is that my original preview text didn't specify a controller/system -- not sure why that got added in editing. we reviewed primarily on the 360, with spending some brief time with the PS3 version to compare. the rockstar guys told us they think that the PS3 looks slightly better , but it really was hard to tell.

we were too busy having fun trying to run tanker trucks into gas stations.

5 mins install time? thats alright, should only be about a gig, based upon other install times

Nice, I love the install feature on the other games. It'd work nicely with the city switches.

So like the other installs, this will load faster? Appearently there's barely a difference, though.

How the hell is the PS3 version better, when all we've seen so far is the 360 one?

Is this more BS to try to make the PS3 version sell better, cause i doubt its better. I mean sure this installation is good to quicken the load times, but i just don't get how its better, when they had trouble with the PS3 version.

Unlike DMC4, GTA4 wasn't started on the PS3 and ported it was started on the 360 then ported so i think at the end of the day 360 version will be better.

      *kicks final blade*

Final Blade. Do you LIKE getting kicked by me?

ROCKSTAR said the PS3 version was 'slightly' better. There is apparently, barely any difference, but according to the people that made the game, the PS3 version is slightly better.

And NO, it wasn't started on the 360 >_> Both versions were being designed at the same time, the 360 version just pulled ahead a bit.

Honestly, READ the article first befoe you start ranting. And get your facts straight too >_>

(And you wonder why people say bad things about you)

It was started first on the 360 though, i remember reading an article from R* stated so.

How can the game be the same if its slightly better?

Fact is the 360 is the only one we've seen at all, we haven't seen anything from the PS3 version at all. And usually Developers show trailer from the version which is the better one. In this case the 360.

Also i was referring to this when i made my statement:

        quote
Another thing mentioned by the author was the fact that the R* employees said that the PS3 version was better
Which i can't see how its possible. Its either the 360 version is better or they're equal.

Don't say one version is better if we haven't anything from the PS3 version.

READ the bloody article (and use what brain you have), yeesh. Someone from ROCKSTAR said that the PS3 verion is supposedly slightly better. I mean it says RIGHT IN THE QUOTE. Rockstar employees said it was better on the PS3. THEY MADE THE GAME, of course they'd know >_>

But they're still more or less the same, since the differences are negligible. They probably had access to some sort of technical/debug data or something, since they're the devs and all. It probably showed the PS3 version running with slightly higher (again, negligible) framerate, or something.....

They showed the 360 version in trailers, because it was slightly ahead in production compared to the PS3 version >_>

Honestly, and I'm not trying to be mean, but I really think you ought to stop commenting on articles, unless you've actually read them properly, and thought about it for a moment....Because with the way things have been going, you've repeatedly made a fool of yourself. I'm trying to save you from yourself, with this suggestion >_>

Neither is better. Regardless. Its more or less the same. Its just BS they try to make it seem better.

And please don't worry about me.

What's better about it? Graphics? Isn't PS3 supposed to have better looking games anyways?

Who knows? Maybe it just has less framerate drops? Better draw distance? Only Rockstar knows I guess >_>

      Meh, graphically, PS3 = 'warm' colouring, 360 = Bright/Vibrant colouring....So that probably isn't it.

They're thumbing you down because the prospect of the PS3 having generally better looking games seems preposterous to them.

Only 5 mins to install? That's a lot less than with GT5P. It should be around 1 Gb.

Honestly, I don't see why the whole install thing is that big of a deal. Maybe this is just coming from the PC gamer aspect in me but installing is not and should never be an issue. People complaining about DMC4's 20-25min install time (or any install time on a console) obviously haven't gone through installs such as Battlefield 2, World of Warcraft, etc. People need to realize that yes, disc sizes are getting bigger but so are games, consoles are becoming closer in power to PC's and with that comes aspects similar to a PC, ie: installing (not a new concept, people! games don't just fit on a floppy disc any more)

To be honest, it will become a BIG deal if more companies start pulling this off because if you think about it, sooner or later, we'll have to delete tons of our saved vids and music in order to save some space for the games and that quite frankly is not something I'm comfortable with but at least its only 1GB to install for a game as like GTA and not 5GB like DMC4. I mean DMC4 didn't have that much content anyways so 5GB of installing the data is just beyond me.

Your going to either have to delete them back them up, or get an external harddrive. You knew these next gen systems was going to end up the way its going now.

DMC4 installation hardly took that long at all, unless you just staying watches it instead of doing something productive and get food, take a shower. Go on the PC it literally felt like 5 minutes for me since i wasn't just thinking about it and being impatient. Next Gen games will have you do this, its inevitable.

          I wasn't complaining about the time. >_>

I was saying the data we needed to install was huge. 5GB is like a whole PS2 game and DMC4 is pretty linear like Seeker said. I would understand if it was a big project like MGS4 but its DMC4 which I think is actually shorter than its predecessors. Pretty ridicolous.

      Seeker X | April 17, 2008
Problem with the DMC4 installation is that it took so *bleep*ing long and it took so much space, and it's a pretty much linear game, compared to a game like Oblivion (like I've mentioned before) Which didn't even take half as long and it's like 100x bigger than DMC4. Other than that, the installations should relate to the quality of the game itself.

@ Finalblade - Try to counter argue points, not ridiculous thumb downs. And seriously, there is NO excuse whatsoever for making me wait at least 20 minutes for the *bleep*ing thing to play just like the 360 version which requires no installation at all, honestly this is a no brainer.

I didn't thumb you down, maybe you need to stop being paranoid.

Also Harddrive comes to mind, about the 360 not having one. Your just a whiner.
But your wrong about DMC4. Not linear.

          The 360 doesn't have a hard drive?

What have I been saving my games and DLC on all this time?

I do believe he is referring to the lack of a standard HDD. The PS3 has one for all models, the 360 does not.
