Grand Theft Auto IV: Launch Day Details from Gamestop

I was walking through my local mall yesterday evening, and while I was reading the back of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the DS with one of my friends, I overheard a young man around my age asking one of the two Gamestop employees about Grand Theft Auto IV.

Some of you are probably saying "Okay, so you overheard a conversation about IV. What's so special about it? We already know it's going to kick ass." at this point. Well, let me explain. Yes, we believe it's going to be a great game based on all the hype Rockstar's been building up for it, and yes, there will be a lot of pissed off gamers if it turns out to be a Grand Theft Disappointment, but this news is entirely different.

I overheard the Gamestop employee stating that there will be a midnight release for IV in about ten of the Gamestop stores within a twenty mile radius of where they are. I quickly called up three of the other Gamestops in the area that he mentioned after I was out of the store and questioned the validity of this and the stores all confirmed that there will indeed be a midnight launch, though it's not every single Gamestop.

So for those of you who just can't wait until 8, 9, or 10 AM to get your copy of GTA IV, check with your local Gamestop if you've preordered a copy of the game from there and find out if they're participating in a midnight release.

I thought gamestop did that for pretty much every major release like that? Thats not really surprising that they will have a midnight release for GTA IV..

Thats kinda crazy as the gamestop here closes at 10. So I doubt it's my area.

I wonder if EB Games will be doing the same as they're owned by the same people who own Gamestop.

  It's possible. I'll see if I can find any EB Games in the area and ask them over the phone, though I'm not sure if I'll have much luck since most of them have converted to Gamestops.

Actually, I just happened to glance at my receipt(I recently paid off my GTA) and it said: Wanted GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 Monday, April 28th at midnight...which is awesome because it's my birthday.

and sucks because I have finals that week and doubt I can hit up the midnight release

GAME in the UK better be doing midnight launches. They did it for Halo 3, and GTA IV has around the same hype.

Uhh yeah. My Gamestop has had "Midnight Launch!" posters for GTAIV all around the store and in the store window for like a month now. It's really nothing new.

My last finals are on the 29th, so I doubt I'll be going to a midnight release, even though I'm dying to get my hands on this game. I'll most likely just get it after my tests are over and go nuts.

I'm having to go all the way to Asda to get my midnight copy.

(That doesn't have the same impact if you don't know I don't live near an Asda and live 5 minutes away from Game.)

Yeah Good point, A lot of Asdas are 24 hour opening, so should be able to get copies from there. I know Gamestation will be doing midnight launches, not sure if every store will though. I'll probably just wait till 9am though, I cant wait for the game but too lazy to go out at midnight

I'm seriously not going to travel up a few miles to wait in line midnight release...I'll get it Tuesday morning instead.

That Monday is after the vacation. I'll be stressed from school, pissed off for the exam I have in my last class... oh, and sleep deprived. So yeah, not a great mindset to get it at midnight release.

_{This isn't new to be honest, they always do this for GTA games. Its a set procedure that R* has with most of their games; specifically GTA.

Trust me i've been to a opening day release for something, which was a book, and its just a pain in the rear, there's no point. What to get the game a few hours earlier, please i rather get it the next day. NO big line, no hassle.}

  You know what's awesome about Gamestop though (or at least the one I go to) is that when you get there they ask for your name and give you a ticket then you get in line, so when midnight hits they just give them out rapid fire to everybody who has a ticket. You can get there at 11:55, be the 150th person in line, and be out of there by 12:05.

      Grammitcally horrendous yet again.
      
      Anyways, like I said, at gamestop it's awesome, the line only takes 10 minutes at the most. If you were to go to a store on the opening day it's likely to take way longer than that becase they would be doing the normal method of selling video games, and alot of people would be there.
