According to several Sony PlayStation 3 owners who acquired beta codes as bonus for placing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on pre-order, some keys are invalid.

Some people only got 9 digits on their code instead of 12. Making it not possible for them to download the MGO Beta.

Konami is yet to release official word regarding the matter, but for those with invalid codes or having troubles downloading, should send a email to mgobetasupport@konami.com .

Earlier today, we posted a quick news piece regarding the availability of the Metal Gear Online beta. Originally scheduled for download on April 17th, the file for the beta and its update are currently available. While it wasn't possible to create Konami IDs because the portal and website are down, it appears that there's a much larger problem – some beta key owners don't have a full key to acquire the beta files.

According to some comment and board posts on our site, some users report receiving beta key codes with only nine letters instead of the twelve needed to activate the download in their Metal Gear Saga Vol.2 discs. While the Konami website does not list this discrepancy, it does indicate that "any inquiries concerning the Metal Gear Online Beta program can be directed to mgobetasupport@konami.com." We tried to contact Konami as to how some of these users could have possibly received incomplete codes but received no comment as of publish time.

We'll have more on the beta as soon as possible.

Feel sorry for whoever got a 9 digit code. All the anxiety and then bam, nothing. =/

A failed beta entry is a slap in the face, regardless of the game.

This reminds me of the time I got an advance beta key for the COD4 beta last year ... only to have my 360 in Texas for repairs because of the RRoD.

I died a little on the inside when I got the e-mail.

Yeah that does suck. I actually have 2 copies of Metal Gear Saga Vol 2. One opened and one unopened.
Luckily the one I opened had a 12 digit code and I already have MGO Beta downloaded and even updated to 1.01.

I reserved online, but seeing as how they are being EXTREMELY slow with the code, I went into the store to make another reservation, just to get the code. Lo and behold, I get the now infamous 9 digit code. I got double dicked. Gamestop.com emailed me saying that they shipped out the DVDs with the codes today through the regular mail, which means I won't have it until after the beta actually starts. Whatever, I guess its better than nothing. I will be royally pissed if my second code only has 9 digits too.

Then you'd be triple dicked? Love the terminology.

I actually pre-ordered it online, but I didn't cancel the order and pre ordered it personally cuz I don't have time to travel much. The DVD's been backordered to hell and back and NOW it finally shipped...I gotta say...I'm glad I didn't pre-ordered it again.

I didn't cancel my online order either, I only ordered it in the store so that I could have the beta code in my hands. I'm going to change that reservation to Ninja Gaiden 2 as soon as I get my second DVD. I just hope it has the full code.
