Unreal Tournament III having a 360-degree summer

Xbox 360 owners will finally be able to get a taste of Unreal Tournament 3 this summer, along with additions such as three new maps and new characters.

Fifteen months ago, Midway Games announced its competitive shooter Unreal Tournament III would be headed to the Xbox 360. The news came as a bit of a shock, as the game had previously been touted as a possible PS3 launch title, and was the console's answer to Gears of War, Epic's wildly popular 360 shooter. (Both games are also available for the PC.)

Later that year at the E3 Media & Business Summit, some ruffled feathers at Sony were smoothed by the news that UTIII would have timed PS3 exclusivity on consoles, with the 360 version not arriving until sometime in 2008.

For the next nine months, the 360 UTIII hung in limbo as its PS3 iteration narrowly made its Q4 2007 release target. Today, though, Midway and Epic announced that owners of Microsoft's console would finally get their hands on the highly-rated action game "this summer."

Though far from a definite lockdown date, the announcement means the game will most likely arrive between late June and early September. The Xbox 360 version offers everything released for the PC and PS3 editions, including all updates and patches, plus the split-screen play, three entirely new maps, two revamped maps, and three brand-new player characters.

    Bleh. There are much better shooters on the 360 but it's worth a rent.

    I got it on PS3 and it's the worst buy I've made tbh. The online play was unplayable, Epic wouldn't fix it or issue a statement despite the pages and pages on their forums complaining about it. And I couldn't play offline either because when it chucked me off the servers (every 5 mins, without fail) it would take me out of the campaign and back to the menu telling me I'd been disconnected from the servers (even though I was still signed in to the PSN) so I'd have to start the mission again.

    360 players are welcome to UT3. Possibly the biggest waste of money out of all my games. Downright crap game. Could've been soooo much better but it's not.

      Says the guy who never played HL2 when it was out, then rates it today as an "average" game.

      UT3 was awesome for UT fans. I just hope that the 360 version allows you to use a mouse-keyboard combination just like on the PS3.

    I also heard it'll have "a Gears of War nugget" included in the game.

    Possibly the ability to play as a locust?

      In the PS3 version you can play as the Master Chief, Spawn, the Locusts (berserker included), Cole, Marcus, the Crysis guy and even Cloud Strife.

      Ahh yes, the benefits of custom content.

          One of the main reasons of it not being out on the 360 right now.

          But with that said Im glad its coming, gives 360 another shooter. But FYI the storyline is absolute crap, but the Multiplayer is awesome.

          Curtis. Microsoft doesn't allow custom user-created content on the XBOX360.

          The reason its been taking so long is because they have been trying to get the custom content on the 360 version. So yes the 360 version does have custom content.

    I enjoy the PC version, myself. Maybe there were some issues with porting it. = / Hoping for this new stuff to be patched in to ours as well.

    I don't know if it happened in the American version, but in our version there was a delay between pressing the button and firing.That put me off the game.

      Yeah, 360 fanboys. But storyline wasn't even that good. Multiplayer is the only thing worth getting it for, similar to halo

          Where did i say this, are you a fanboy? I never specified who was, but most people who played it already like iLL doesn't really care for this news since he has both consoles. Usually Fanboys care cause its just another game they can gloat having.

          But from your response, i already know the answer. However its good the game is coming to 360, but i doubt its going to be a massive hit, consider alot of other games are going to be released, big game, that will over shadow it, similar to the PS3 version released

        The storyline has never once been the focus of Unreal Tournament kiddo. The multiplayer has been the selling point.
