Which Console Will Win This Generation? An IGN Poll

If there's one thing that can be said, it's that most polls are biased. You always seem to find sites such as PSPfanboy doing a poll where you can be sure that the readers have already got their mind set as to which console they prefer. However when the poll comes from a general Gaming site, where people from all walks of life gather... one thing can be said... the only bias in this is that it's a Poll for gamers.

Well, IGN conducted a survey of this sort, and it seems that amongst Gamers, Playstation 3 is the console of choice, and with over a million players polled, it's quite interesting result.

As for the Wii, which most would have thought would have won due to their huge number of console sales... should remember that as I said, this was biased towards gamers, and it seems that the Gamer:Non-gamer ratio for the wii is slightly skewed towards the non-gamers (thus less Wii fanatics saw the quiz to have been able to participate in it).

What is your opinion... was this a fair poll?

    Polls are cool and all, but when it comes to this topic, any poll is irrelevant. I don't know why people and websites insist on bringing this topic back up again and again.

    I may sound like an arse, but if everyone stopped taking the console war so seriously, we wouldn't have fanboys and such problems between consoles.

    What about all the people that are buying PS3's that aren't even gamers and just want a future-proof feature laden Blu-Ray player? Surely they aren't dropping into IGN to vote either.

    The 360 only has one market, gamers. The Wii caters to gamers and "non-gamers." The PS3 caters to gamers and those people that want Blu-Ray players, which will only grow as time goes on.

    Either way polls never prove anything, that's not their intention, but they can definitely give you a decent perspective on things.

    The PS3 has already won.

    No I'm not being an ass.I just mean that the PS3 is my console of choice and that's all that matters to me.I don't care which console wins this generation..

    No poll is ever faier these days, every poll has got bias and i bet this one had it's share of bias in it. Though i do love the PS3 i bet it has bias.

    I mean GTA4, GT5, MGS4, FF13, FF13v, God of War 3, Kingdom hearts 3....etc

    i dont care what system wins i own a Wii and 360 and if one beats the other or PS3 wins, i don't care...Becuase i will have a PS3 sometime this year, so in my case all systems win this next gen war!

    nobodys going to win anything because some faggot is always going to poke his head out of each side and declare superiority for his preferred console.

    the wii wins in the sales department, so far. thats the only non-biased non-opinionated way to measure it.

      Not really, 360 is winning the Sales department thats fact. How lets see massive console sales, and a Massive huge Library with great game that sold 10s of millions. The Wii is only winning in console sales. Thats the non biased non opinionated way to measure it.

    Seriously, the PS3 winning is just no big surprise. The Wii may win in the sales department, but that's coz all kinds of people go for the Wii. (That all kinds include old people (to some extent) and little kids.) Most of these Wii owners don't participate in any online activities let alone online polls.
    Most people who come online (more involved gamers) usually prefer the PS3 (or even 360 to a certain extent).

    Bah. Why does it even matter anymore? Each console is doing good - I'm sure that's all the companies care about.
    If one console "wins" then that's an added bonus, but I don't think the other two companies will be too fussed.

    A good read that was though a poll even though it is a broad range of users is actually a small percentage of the market and could be inaccurate never the less. But I agree with Gothic Girl on this as they are all doing well so in the end it doesn't really matter as long as they are producing games for the users.

    Guys if you care to check the list again the PS3 is actually losing.

    PS3: 632198 votes
    360: 930365 Votes
    Wii: 326041 Votes

    So with that said, the PS3 will not win, as a matter of fact no one wins. SO i think this article needs to be changed, cause its apparently no longer true.

    Maybe the author of this article is biased...seeing as how it was written way too early. I guess he was just soooo eager to give "shocking" news that the PS3 might win a poll that no one really cares about.

      Indeed, considering how many more votes 360 has now. Preemptive articles FTL!

      Right now the 360 has about 1,400,000 more votes than PS3 alone, and the vote-bar size is about two-and-a-half times longer than PS3's.

      Its just stupid votes it means shit at the end of the day. Fact is there could be people voting more than once. Like i said before no one wins.
