Microsoft have released another update for the Xbox 360. They say it's for "Future Growth", but haven't exactly let anyone know what they mean by that. All we know is that the next time you turn on your 360 be ready for an update.

The next time you turn on your Xbox 360, you will likely be prompted to download a new system update, which may lead you to wonder just what exactly it updated. According to Major Nelson, who announced the update earlier today, the answer is nothing -- nothing tangible, at least. But the real point of interest here is what the update is doing behind the scenes: "This update contains code to 'prepare for future growth of the service.'"

I was wondering about that, myself... hmm, mysterious.

The update takes ten seconds to download, wow.

Totally. I just can't stand how the 360 constantly bombards us with these 5 second updates. I mean it's like every month now! WTF!

Jesus Christ this was so stupid I FEEL BAD. That's how awful this was, dude. What the hell. You have to TRY to produce such worthless shit.

I've edited the article's description and title to be more in line with GameGrep's expected standards.

Future Growth? Perhaps they mean something to do with Blu-ray or something with the Live.

But its weird that the update is that short, i mean is it normally that fast?

Wish they would be clear for what its for.

Updates, including game patches, are always very fast. Even the major Dashboard updates are over in less than thirty seconds. I have no idea how they manage to do it, since that includes download and install time! Impressive.

So whats the update for, seems to me that its just a random update. Unless it was supposed to fix an error or something with live. But thats all i got. Weird.

I don't think the update was much for what it did now, but to help something they can do later in the future.

Probably increasing server size for GTA IV.

Live will be down for like five hours at like 2 AM EST on the 21st as well.

That's exactly what I first thought Cdemon. The maintenance and update together seem to hint at some sort of infrastructure change to prepare for Grand Theft Auto IV's release next Tuesday.

Well unless they were taking a preemptive move to prevent the servers to be down when GTA4 comes out like what happened to Halo and call of duty 4. Than i can definitely see this helping.

Blu-Ray is unlikely it couldnt be an update...even if i pray it was!

it seems odd no details are on this update...

The download took less than 20 seconds for me.

I only wish PS3 updates were this fast seeing as they occur more frequently.

Not really, we got update for bugs, and another actual schedule update. We won't see another in a few months when Home comes out.

I've had my 360 for about 9 months. I've had my PS3 for about 6 weeks.

I've probably had the same amount of updates for both consoles.

I had mine for 10 months, i know what im talking about. It was more frequent 5 months ago. And that cause the system neeeded those updates. The last two update was the first ones in 2 and half months. And one of them wasn't even scheduled.

Have you had a 360 to compare it to?

I've had about 3 updates (excluding the initial update when I connected them to the internet for the first time) for each in the time scales I posted above.

And obviously you'd know about how many updates I've had better than myself.

What does that have to do with anything? Im talking about PS3 not 360. As far as i know the 360 rarely gets FW updates. Where as the PS3 had alot of them from 8 months ago.

I'm giving my experience of updates with both consoles.

          You're *bleep*ing stupid.
