Once you download and install the premier beta of Metal Gear Online, it seems you have to update it before playing. Right here, the problem kicks in. First, you must notice that there are two methods of downloading. 1 : P2P. Most of you may say "Huh?". Well, it is P2P, but it's not LimeWire. =P
Well, if they had just P2P, and some seeders dedicated to it, they could have done it quite well. But the thing is, they also added a second method. 2 : HTTP. This is an ordinary download from their server. The problem arose, because Konami expected people to use HTTP to download and then share on P2P. Everyone downloaded from their HTTP server and didn't seed on P2P.
Konami should've never given the "download method selection" to the consumer.

Konami has tried to be very clever, anticipating the high demand and volume of downloads they have realized it would make a lot of sense to have gamers download from one another rather than everyone suddenly making a run on their servers slowing them down to the speed of a tortoise wading through a sea of thick, sloppy disappointment.

Sadly, there are pros and cons of each method and a giant trap for us all to tumble in to. Firstly, if everyone opts to download via P2P then everyone will get it super fast. However, if hardly anyone uses it, then those that do will find themselves riding on the back of our friend, the tortoise.

The HTTP download works the other way round, if everyone goes for that then the servers over at Konami HQ will start to spit, splutter and smoke; giving no one a decent download speed. But, if out of charity and communal spirit no one does that and opts for P2P then the HTTP download will be über fast. Get it?

Its quite common now for more independent developers/publishers to offer this double method of downloads, but I think you're right, probably what they should have done is use P2P altogether so that during the download each client acts like a peer. All they need to do is supply several seeds themselves to keep things smooth. I've been contemplating whether Neo could use a method like this to host things like HD game trailers, trainers, etc.

Never trust the public when making a choice like this, not everyone is as tech savy as the developers like to think

What they should have done is given us some actual stats of how things are currently going. I just went for the P2P because I figured people already had it downloaded. For me it worked fine and I did it on the DAY that it was available for download. It worked just fine via P2P on day 1 for me so I don't see what the big problem is.

To be honest it should have been a forced seed until the beta officially opens, the online community is not that loving yet they won't seed voluntarily.

Don't you think Konami would've considered that? That, unfortunately for them, cannot be done. A forced seed could've affected the gameplay performance due to bandwidth being used for the uploading. That would've brought about problems.

Either option never worked for me and i've tried over 10 times in sorting it out.. they need to sort it out soon.

Just leave it on whilst the percentage bar gets completed. Just like a normal downlaod really.

Is it me or does the HTTP method no longer work either?

A result of everyone bombarding the servers and not utilising the peer download method, I would assume. Irony at its best.

I tried P2P, and it was downloading at around 7kb/s. After around 3 hours I had 9% complete, and I honestly don't want to leave my PS3 on for the next week since I'm not going to be home till next Fri for me to bother to leave it on at all. I'll see if I can download it next friday, otherwise I'll just pass.
