Survival horror genre followers in need of more thrills and chills are probably itching to know what's been up with the development of Dead Space.

Well, according to Beaver the game is coming along very nicely. The game has reached the halfway mark of development, and the majority of motion capture and performance capture has been completed, giving the graphics end some much-needed headway.

They have also been working hard on temp-voice recordings that will be used in the game. They need to get rid of the bad ones so that the storytelling is kept entertaining.

So first an update on the game. We are in the heated center of full production. Assets are pouring into the game at an incredible rate. The Scripted Event team has completed the majority of our MoCap (motion capture) and P-Cap (performance capture) recording sessions with the actors (grown men and women standing around all day in tight black-lycra body suits covered in ping pong balls, and little tiny pencil erasers literally all over their faces. Okay...now...ACT!) and that data is making its way back from Vancouver into the game. Our game has no cutscenes, so all story is told through live scripted events during gameplay, as well as video and audio logs. Bret (the Creative Director) and I are busy listening through the temp-voice versions of the logs (which have been recorded by our team members -- if you want to appreciate the talent of acting, try listening to a recording of yourself trying to seriously act out some lines, and you’ll be all, “oh THAT’S why I’m not an actor”) in the game to verify length and placement. Man that sh*t is broken. We’ve got logs stepping all over combat, horror moments, each other, and some are just insanely long. So we’ll be moving and editing and re-writing, trying to hit our script lock deadline for localization. Or globalization. It’s funny that you can choose either word. There’s something pleasing and existential about that, but I don’t have time to work it out. THE SCRIPT IS COMING TERRITORIES.

I'm actually looking forward to this game for some reason.

Maybe its the idea of zombies in space that has caught my interest.

It's nice to just hear that development is going smoothly for games. It reassures me they're going to be quality.
