Rockstar have announced that for the up and coming phenomenon that is Grand Theft Auto IV, that you will no longer be able to listen to the Radio whilst walking around the streets through your Cellphone as once planned as they have removed this feature from the game, though have stated no reason why unfortunately.

Looks like the only method you are able to is retro style, and that is through the cars stereo.

You thought you could walk around listening to your own music on GTAIV? Not anymore.

One of the main features of the new Grand Theft Auto IV was going to be the ability to listen to music on your "Cellphone" while walking the streets. Rockstar has announced that they have removed this capability from the game. So it looks like it's back to stealing cars if you want to have any control over the music you will hear while playing Grand Theft Auto IV. All I can say is bummer.

    WHY?
That was a really cool feature.
I don't see why they removed it.

    WTF?!

That's a feature I've been waiting for since Vice City!

Who listens to the radio while walking around the freaking streets to begin with? It's all about custom soundtracks.

I think they plan on releasing it through a update. Perhaps they wasn't able to fully integrate it before the announce.

Guys, calm down. I thought Sony was in the process of bringing custom soundtracks to the PS3?

Who thumbed him down? You guys need to start being more reasonable with your negative thumbing. It's getting out of control. I mean it's only really necessary for the comments you truly don't agree with and things that are really stupid. What on earth did Curtis say that could warrant a negative thumb? Come on guys.

Besides the fact that it was obvious baiting, *bleep*ed, and a complete off-the-wall comment? Oh, jee, not much. Now normally I'm totally against thumbing down...but not even that deserves a reply.

          Insecure, much?

It's hilarious that you're so easily ticked off about anything regarding the PS3 that isn't 100% positive.

Don't flatter yourself, and it's hard to talk in your position, when you're the one who gets offended at GameGrep article names (shit, not even I get THAT defensive). Oh and answer me this...just who the *bleep* is talking about the PS3 and Custom soundtracks besides you? It's been bothering me for a while...

And whoever's thumbing down, it's time to grow some balls and SPEAK UP if you've got something to say.

Well the truth of the matter is that when in-game XMB is released Custom Soundtracks happen automatically.

And his comment is truly *bleep*ed. This isn't about Custom Soundtracks. I have no clue where the hell he got that from. This is the Radio the same one you listen to while driving cars around in GTA. They claimed we would be able to listen to it while walking around from the cell. Now this is telling us you can't from both version. It has nothing and i mean nothing to do with Custom soundtrack.

Either that was poor sarcasm or just totally stupid. Thats why people are thumbing him down.

I know right, who would have thought you reminding people of an upcoming feature would have pissed somebody off?

That would've been a cood feature. I dunno how much I would've used it though. It would be cool to be able to listen to music though anywhere else besides inside a vehicle though.

There's really no logical reason that they couldn't put the feature in, but oh well. As has been stated, it's all about custom soundtracks anyways.

No big deal i mean Rockstar stated in an interview that GTA IV has over 19,000 sound effects, over 1000 of these will be playing simultaneously at any one time, this builds the atmosphere of a living breathing city, if the gamer can't hear that then their 4 years of recording work is wasted.

Damn this was one of my most wanted features

    CRUNK JUICE Apr 21, 08
I agree with Nikki here. It would of been a bit of wasted feature aswell since alot of people im guessing would much rather listen to the ambient sounds of a living city aswell as the hilarious random one liners they make.

Yeah I'm not bothered about this either to be honest. It's more fun to roam the streets just listening to pedestrians and ambience.

You most likely will still be able to override the game's sound via the Xbox Guide, if you really are that desperate to listen to music while outside of a vehicle. I always thought it was distracting listing to music whilst not in a car, though.

I wonder if and how custom soundtracks will be handled when control is given to the game. A custom music station with the ability to switch tracks with the directional pad? Only time will tell.

Most likely its going to be used the same way as Burnout Paradise will use it. But you need to be in the car though. I never really cared for music outside of a Vehicle in any GTA game. I don't see why people rather listen to that, than Ambient sounds of a living Breathing GTA game. That will show what New York City really is. It just destroys all of their hard work. I say good Riddance.

Sad to see a feature chucked out of the game, but I like listening to the world around me in GTA games.

Oh, I kinda would have love that feature to be in.
But, I'm guessing there's plenty of other stuff int he city to do, like Bowling, and Comedy clubs, and outside is also all kinds of things going, like Street performers.
Mimes! I hope they have Mimes!, I would love to beat one up!

I'd much rather listen to the sounds of the city while walking around anyway.

Eventually listening to City music will get tiring. Especially if you don't care for the soundtracks anyway.

The in game XMB looks to be a while off (This July or something, there is supposed to be 'in game messaging' but that isn't the same thing, unless they're just being secretive about the extent of the update)....

With the advent of the Playlist feature on the PS3 (360 has had it for a while), it should be even easier for them to have custom radio station on GTA IV -_- Just select a playlist and voila....Well, hopefully an update fixes this....
