What idiot decided it would be a good financially viable decision to release it a few days after the release?

Because there's a good chance that the day of release will make it impossible for people to pick it up from their local retailers?

How much is the PS3 alone without the game? $715 doesn't sound like any bargain I'd be hitting up. Kind of shifty sounding to me at least.

Pretty much everyone outside of North America and Japan get screwed to the wall over consumer electronics (consoles, MP3 players, etc...).

In the UK a PS3 and brand new game would cost £340 (£3oo for the console, £40 for the game).

      It's worse in Australia.

Is it all the tax tariffs that sky rocket the prices? Or just shady business practices?

It's both really. There was an article about how Nintendo made a much higher profit on Wii's sold in the UK than anywhere else.

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that for video games. I'd still be playing the 64 iff that was the case. Is GH III even more expensive outside the U.S. and Japan?
