PocketGamer (www.pocketgamer.co.uk) has done an interview with Square Enix's producer Hideki Imaizumi and executive producer Yoshinori Kitase on the ongoing preparations for the game that will be coming out in UK.

In this interview, they are given the question "If you'd known the DS was going to be as popular as it is, would you have chosen to make Crisis Core for it instead?" and give the answer "It really wasn't an option to begin with and it wasn't something we regretted later because whereas, yes, there are a lot of DSs out there - but does that mean that our products sell in relation to that?".

If you'd known the DS was going to be as popular as it is, would you have chosen to make Crisis Core for it instead?

The DS was already out at the time we came up with the concept of Crisis Core. It really wasn't an option to begin with and it wasn't something we regretted later because whereas, yes, there are a lot of DSs out there - but does that mean that our products sell in relation to that? That our sales grow with how many DSs or PSPs there are out there?

It's not really the case. How much the product sells really depends on the game itself, who it's targeted to and all sorts of different factors. It's not really always about the hardware. Especially in terms of this game where the demographic was higher teens to young adults as opposed to small children. The PSP seemed closer to that demographic than DS in general. So we feel we really made the right choice.

We'll make a DS game called Brain Age: Final Fantasy for DS [laughs].

itd be horrible to have it for DS seeing as how FF7 is originally for playstation anyway. plus, PSP is waaay better then the DS.

Trust me, you're gonna need a shit load of luck to prevent your comment from being hidden due to fanboy-thumb-downs.
Anyway, what you say is right. Because FFVII was on PlayStation, Crisis Core probably wouldn't have been sold much. (Not many people buy a PlayStation and then later buy a Nintendo DS. )

Didn't Squeenix say a while ago that Crisis Core barely fits on the PSP as it is? Of course they're not regretting putting it on the PSP if teh game would have to be "downsized" for DS.

Very true, if it was barely big enough for the PSP, it would be way to large for the DS.

put it on the DS, make the pretty graphics look like shit, crop out 90% of the cutscenes, turn the soundtrack into midis, and force the touchscreen into play.

as stupid as it is, it still would have sold way more than it has on the psp.

Yeah like everything you said in your post makes it clear it would have sold better for the DS

Of course its going to be better than the DS. I already said the PSP have better graphics to the DS. Its logical to think the PSP is better. Besides this game would've been utter shit if it was released on the DS. Sorry DS fanboys its true. And i played this game so many times i know the truth. CC is a perfect and match made in heaven for the PSP. Just like the rest of FF titles and future games for PS3

It's because the PSP is just that cool.

Nah, I doubt it'd work with the DS. Shitty graphics for one, the touch screen would ruin the play, blah blah blah. Final Fantasy is Sony's anyways.

Final Fantasy isn't entirely Sony's. I mean, the old FF remakes are being made for Nintendo, PSP only got the first two. SquareEnix can't forget their roots with Nintendo, which is why we got The World Ends With You.

It's true, CC wouldn't have worked with the DS, but TWEWY...doubt it would be as fun on the PSP.

I think so far SE has been making great decisions as to what platform each game should go to. I dug FFXII on the PS2 and I dug it again when the sequel came to the DS.....and I'm sorry but CC BELONGS on the PSP. I have a DS and PSP so I get the best of both worlds.

The FF games on GBA and DS were all originally nintendo games, so it makes sense that FF7's prequel is on PSP. Hell if they made a preque/ sequel for FF8 or 9 and it had to be portab;e for whatever reason, it would be on PSP.
