Analyst's: Grand Theft Auto IV To Benefit PS3 Sales More

Wedbush Morgan analyst Micheal Pachter as well as BMO Capital Markets' Edward Williams both believe that Grand Theft Auto IV will be more of a success for the Playstation 3 hardware sales then the Xbox 360's hardware sales as they believe people may be able to justify there reason to buy the Playstation 3 because of the heritage of Rockstar and the connection from GTA and Sony.

Video game sales prognosticators predict that Grand Theft Auto IV will sell some 9 to 12 million copies this year, lining the pockets of Take-Two execs and Rockstar Games employees. It may also help the PlayStation 3, at least more so than the Xbox 360, says Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. It's not just him, either, as BMO Capital Markets' Edward Williams thinks GTA's PlayStation heritage may inspire some to drop the cash on a new PS3.

Sony probably doesn't have much to worry about in Europe, where they'll be shipping a GTA IV hardware bundle. Time will tell whether the GTA fanbase deems the prospect of downloadable content and Xbox Live support more important than Sony's software exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 as motivating factors in making their console choices. Who else can't wait for April's NPD sales data?! Should be very good times.

    Yup, most of my friends are only getting the PS3 for GTA, so I'm sure sales will rise. But the same might happen for the 360.

    Yeah this may be true, alot of people could have been waiting for this game to come out to get a PS3 (because there haven't been any good games so far) but people like me who don't really care about brand loyalty went ahead and got a 360 a while ago and are now getting it on 360.

    But yeah as far as CONSOLE sales after next week, I'm sure the PS3 will go up a bit.

          More like stop posting so much "meh PS3, yay 360" shit that isn't necessary in the first place just because it's a "pro-PS3" article. It's an analyst's point of view, you can lower your weapons, nobody's taking it seriously.

          It's easy to explain, you have a bad tendency to talk about the PS3...in which you know absolutely NOTHING about. There are plenty other people here that defend the 360, I don't start shit with them, you know why? Cause they use facts and their knowledge about THEIR console...YOU on the other hand just feel like bashing the other console without any real knowledge and trying to pass it off as fact...and then trying to make anybody that disagrees with you a fanboy (thus making you a big-time hypocrite).

          If I cared so much why the *bleep* would I buy a PS3 at the end of this year? I definately need a blu-ray player and would like to play Gran Turismo and MGS:4.

          I only do this because if you haven't noticed, the top 20 articles of all time on GG are related to the PS3. I smell bias. Not to mention when I'm in the XBOX 360 FORUM, it clearly says XBOX 360 HEADLINES, and half the shit is about PS3.

          The reason I called you a fanboy is because all I've done is state my opinion (xbl > psn) and a fact (not many people talk on psn, you can even ask Incidnia, AND there aren't as many people on psn, which is common knowledge) and YOU got defensive. It doesn't take away from the PS3 at all, it's still a great system, it's just not ideal for online multiplayer. I'm sorry if I come across as hating the PS3 but I honestly don't care. All I'm doing is defending the 360 against the many haters on here.

          Everybody has opinions, what YOU stated about the PS3 weren't facts, I can tell you that much. Such as the bolded part...because someone complained that makes it fact? Laughable. Oh and the whole "there are more people on XBL than PSN", you know that has never been an issue, right? You were obviously just picking at straws, mainly cause even XBL users know that the PSN has plenty of people anyways.

          In short, I didn't attack your opinion, I attacked your unfounded conclusions.

          Well didn't microsoft announce they just had their 5th millionth or so XBL member? Has PSN come close to that? That's basically what I was going by, I haven't heard anything from Sony about their numbers. And the thing about not many people talking on PSN came from somebody who I know has played on PSN on a few different games. Does the PS3 come with a headset?

          Either way dude, I think you were misundertanding my motives. I'm trying to make peace here.

        You know, not to step in but maybe not responding to Seeker is better for both.
        Also it seems only a few people can state things that others can't. For instance if i were to state something Cdemon would say, i would get all thumbs down and my post gets taken out of view, probably deleted as well. But if he says it, it gets praised with 10 thumbs up. I Smell bias.

          That's because nobody likes you, and Cdemon usually knows what he is talking about and is often just pointing out how an article is stupid or something. That's why you get thumbs down and he gets thumbs up.

          I love how I have two thumbs down and nobody has replied to my comment, that's just plain stupid. All I did was state my opinion, and the rest was clearly fact. If you don't like it then oh well but there's nothing I can do about more people using XBL, it's not my fault.

    Are people really this stupid and need this spelt out to them? There are going to be more PS3 sales as the Xbox 360 has been out longer, and thus has more users, who want GTA IV.

    I can't see how it really matters. Its not benefiting us, he consumer, at all, so why does anyone really care? Just as long as you get to play it, it should be alright, none of this "oh, i'm getting it for PS3 cuz i want PS3 to get good sales, uh huh huh"
