Video games have changed alot over the last 20 years. GameDaily takes a look at the evolution of our favorite video game mascots. You'd be surprised to see how much some of these characters have changed over the years.

Then: Mario
When Mario first debuted (as Mario, not Jumpman in Donkey Kong), he was a flat, pixilated sprite, with a sausage nose, what appears to be brownish/red hair and a whole lot of belly -- not exactly Princess Peach's stud muffin.

Now: More than your average plumber
Damn. Mario gets a talk show makeover. Nintendo outfitted him with white gloves, a red cap with a big letter M in the middle and some snazzy blue overalls. They even slapped some eyebrows onto his head. And we're sure that Princess Peach fell for him as soon as she stared into those big, blue eyes.

argh, GameDaily FTL. Why can't they just put both before and afters on the same page? why split it up into multiple pages? D:

    Also:

They are misinformed; Mario's original name was Jumpman. I think these guys over at GD need to watch the movie "King of Kong".

They really did change Mario. I guess it's for the best if it's a main character of a series.

Well they couldn't just leave Mario as a "flat, pixilated sprite". I don't think that would attract consumers. They did the same with and Pacman and Mrs. Pacman. Now they have legs, arms, ties and even makeup.
