Someone apparently when down to his local Gamestop to pick up Grand Theft Auto IV, but was roughly turned down since he did not have a pre-order? What's up with that, you say? Well, he went to Target and they gladly sold it to him, no pre-order required. Is it just a case of the clerk being a jerk or is GameStop that limited in it's copies of GTA IV.

Me (well dressed upstanding citizen): Good day sir, I will take your finest copy of GTA IV for the 360.
Ass Clerk (yes I am almost positive this was his name): Do you have your copy reserved?
Me: Of course not.
AC: Sorry I can’t sell you a copy then.
Me: Are you kidding me?
AC: No. Try Babbages down the street.
Me: This is why this store sucks.

Yeah Gamestop has been known to do this. I had to travel to about 5 different Gamestops until finally one of the clerks gave it to me without a reserve. It probably depends on how many copies they have.

While i do think they're jerks to do this, gamefreak is probably right. Luckily I never experienced this before.

The district is probably already sold out. This happened with SSBB. We ran out of copies to sell to walk-ins and had to hold the others for reserve customers for the standard 48 hours as we couldn't get resupplied until three days later and wouldn't run out for people who reserved it. In my district though we're supposed to sell all copies to all walk-ins if they ask, as resupplies will come instantly if we run low on our reserve cache.

In addition, what *bleep* doesn't reserve GTA IV anyways?

I didn't go with Gamestop this time, but I've never had a problem as long as I do pre-order. I didn't do so with FFXII and got screwed on that deal....there were no free copies left.

The just dont want people who HAVE preordred to be turned down, or that would be really *bleep*ed"

"oh his im here to pick up my preordered copy"
"sorry, I just sold it too that guy who didn't preorder"
"Its ok, I have no money anyway, Im a hobo"
"why did you preorder it then"
    "I wanted to look kewl"
"Here take my wife as a prize"

I don't think it was because they only do pre-orders...I think it's more along the lines of, "we don't have any extra copies because so many people reserved it!"

Although the nearest GameStop that I have do act this way no matter what...they accept if you didn't pre-order it, but you'd need to buy the game's strategy guide with the game to purchase it upfront.
