Nine days ago, I posted an article telling you about a mysterious counter on diablo3.com which launched numerous rumours... well 9 days have passed, and it's finally the 1st of May.... what was the counter for? It was for the change from diablo3.com to diablofans.com. But why was it (rightly) stated that people would talk about this... the reason being that the original site has been sold to none otherthan Blizzard. Could this mean that Diablo 3 is coming soon? Chances are yes.

A few months ago we were contacted by Blizzard in regards to the Diablo3.com domain name. While they appreciate all the work that's been put into running this big Diablo fan community over the years, they still want the domain name. Hmm, I wonder why? Now before you get all up in arms about it, allow me to explain a few things.

First off, this fan site isn't going anywhere, it's just getting a new name: Diablofans.com! Blizzard is actually being really cool about it, giving us all the time we need to make it a smooth transition before we hand the old domain over to them. So be sure to update all of your bookmarks and point 'em to diablofans.com instead. Your user accounts will all still be perfectly functional and, along with this new site name, we'll soon have a big site redesign up and running as well. A new name, a new look. Huzzah!

Secondly, while Blizzard is indeed acquiring the diablo3.com domain name, they told me that this shouldn't be considered an announcement for the Diablo 3 game we've been waiting for all these years. They acquire new domains all the time. While this is true, I personally can't help but think that this is a confirmation of sorts that they're working on the next Diablo game. Sure, they can claim it's because they want to protect their intellectual properties 'n what have you, but I can't imagine they would all of a sudden be so interested in the diablo3.com domain if they weren't working on a new Diablo 3 game behind the scenes.

Sort of a let down. Thought the announcement would be more exciting than that. Don't know why you'd have a 13 day counter for that announcement.

For the advertisement. And from this article, they're obviously getting it.

Mm it's pretty clear what they are aiming for. It's just viral marketing and getting the word out so that the hype and rumurs start to circulate. Once that happens Blizzard barely have to do anything to advertise the game. Then fans do all of the hard work themselves.

I'm both happy and sad with this announcement. While Diablo is great and fun series I'm more of a fan of Warcraft and since the only rumor keeping WCIV alive was that Blizzard was going to start work on a new game for an old series we can pretty much put any possibility of a fourth Warcraft off for a few years.

I really don't see how Diablo 3 is going to happen. And i honestly never saw the whole great thing about it. From what i saw WoW is a better game than Diablo even though i don't like how addicting WoW is.

How about Diablo being MUCH older than WoW? Its unfair to compare them, they were made years apart from eachother.

WoW is an MMORPG. Diablo is not. They aren't in the same genre.

I never said it was the same type of game, im just stating WoW is better than Diablo. In general.

This nearly confirms Diablo 3, but I don't expect to see anything for a few months. (Perhaps years)

It would be directly competing with WoW if it came out soon, and companies generally try to avoid competition with their own games. >.>

It would be logical to expect some news about D3 at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational next time. The revelation of SCII was a pretty big deal at the same event last year. This could help turn people's attention to D3 as well.
