An Asus subsiduary, Pegatron Technology, has reportedly recieved an order from Microsoft to build a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360, set to ship before the holiday season. Pegatron says they plan on beginning production soon.

There have been rumors for a long time, with everything from Microsoft hinting they would support Blu-ray, to Sony saying Microsoft was feeling "Blu". This all comes after Blu-ray clearly won the High Definition format wars.

Pegatron also stated that the Xbox 360 Arcade would be getting a price cut soon, but didn't know to what extent.

A report from Taiwanese news source Economic Daily News says that Pegatron Technology—a recently formed subsidiary of Asus that shouldn't be confused with the Decepticon leader—has received an order from Microsoft to manufacture a Blu-ray equipped model of the Xbox 360. According to the report, Pegatron says that it plans to begin production on the HD version of the Xbox 360 soon, with plans to ship within the next six months, aiming for a pre-holiday release.

It won't be the first time we've heard talk about Microsoft gloming on to the format, as the DigiTimes recently pegged manufacturer Lite-On as a Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive maker and Sony executives hinted that its competitor was feeling Blu to the Financial Times. MS CEO Steve Ballmer recently went on record about the move away from HD-DVD, saying the company will "support Blu-ray in ways that make sense."

Let's all have a Sony parade. We can make a Kaz float. It'll be awesome. Who's with me?

Or we could just, you know, sit in a circle and talk about how much we hate Microsoft. Vent it all out. Then we can pretend to objectively look at whether or not we should approve Microsoft related articles.

Hey lets make a float, and i can show you my awesome collection of Sony products as well as a few MS products as well. Its going to be grand

Um Avalith MS did say they were supporting it, and later another article said no. But i can't fathom why? Especially since it would benefit both Sony and MS, one being MS having a Hi-def DVD system.

Actually, from the start, they stated that they would follow whatever format turned out successful; they had no stake in HD-DVD.

Good job looking like a moron, haha.

      0.

The Blu-Ray player wouldn't play games. It'd be just for movies, like the HD-DVD addon that twelve people got.

According to Pegatron, it's not an addon...

"to manufacture a Blu-ray equipped model of the Xbox 360"

        It would be built in.

He said like the HD-DVD addon, not that this would be an addon

Built in or not, would it be used for games?

Yeah but it would still only play movies, doesn't matter whether it was an add on or not
