The rumors of Blu-Ray coming onto the Xbox 360 just won't die. Apparently, assembly deals for the Blu-Ray Xbox 360 have been signed. Apparently, Pegatron has won the right from Microsoft to make Blu-Ray enables Xbox 360s, and it is expected the shipments will start in the third quarter of this year.

The Blu-ray Xbox 360 rumours just won't die. Chinese newspaper Economic Daily News is the latest publication to point towards the union of Sony's format and Microsoft's console. Apparently assembly deals for the Blu-ray 360 have already been signed.

According to the publication, Pegatron, a subsidiary of electronic component giant ASUS, has won the order from Microsoft to assemble the Blu-ray-enabled Xbox 360 and shipments are expected to begin in Q3 this year.

It's unclear whether the paper is pointing towards a HD-DVD-style add-on or an entirely new console, but either way it seems to make sense now that the Xbox 360 is left supporting none of the current HD media formats (all one of them) in the shops.

That's probably to add BluRay to Microsoft's next console(XBOX720?) not to the 360.

Well it says 360 not 720 in the article and its a bit early to already be constructing the next gen consoles isn't it?

Um no, After the current systems were released each company started making the next gen systems. Its how its always been. Sony started making the PS3 since 2001.

Anyway this is old news we already know they had plans to put the Blu-ray player for the 360.

Not quite consoles always go into production earth but production consists of so many phases by the time that is done the console will normally be going into manufacture, they don't make or build the system right off the bat.

Umm no, I am pretty sure that Microsoft wouldn't be constructing millions of 720's without even announcing anything years before they are due to be released. I never said they weren't working on it, just that they wouldn't be producing them

It will be interesting to see if Sony ( can and probably will ) screw Microsoft over components delays and/or prices to anyone who produces BD roms for Microsoft.

Before you say "they can't do that" they can and in fact have done with other BD player manufactures, whom also happen to be part of the BDA, all for the PS3.

How will they be able to do this, hmm, mostly because Sony is the only manufacturer who produces large quantities of approximately 30 to 50 percent of all BD rom components.

I have heard however that Sony will be more than happy for microsoft to have a add on though, will see.

Wow, who are the morons who thumbed down every comment? A Blu-Ray 360, add-on or built-in, wouldn't be able to be used for games because it would alienate anyone who bought a 360 without it. It'll probably only be used for movies like the HD-DVD add-on, but if it's for their next consoles, they shouldn't be at the production phase yet.
