There is a short stock of the Nintendo Wii, yet high demand in the US and people are questioning why. There are a few theories floating around. One is that because Nintendo is focusing on Europe for a bigger buck, due to the dollar situation in the states. Another, is more obvious. There simply is not enough factories to manufacture the systems out to retailers. The last is surprising. Is Nintendo holding on the systems simply to build a hype around the states so the demand raises higher and higer? This could possibly put them at risk however, since the cosumers may get impatient and simply go to their competition, Sony and Microsoft for, let's say, comfort and support and get their system instead.

Though it might be a sound business strategy, creating and maintaining demand runs the risk of being simply unethical. What does that say about Nintendo, if it is able to distribute enough consoles to make consumers happy, but isn’t doing so only to inflate the hype around the console as well as stock prices?

The fact of the matter is that the Wii is a virus being spread purposefully by Nintendo. The media has duped the public into believing the console is something more than it is, and non-gamers are eating it up. By withholding consoles from the public, Nintendo is getting fat and rich of a manufactured lie. Waving a Wiimote around might be fun for a short while, but I refuse to be one of the duped masses that spreads the virus any further, thank you very much.

I don't know why they keep doing this (if it's true). If I was in the USA and couldn't get a Wii I'd definitely go for a PS3 or make some other use of my money. Why should I wait for Nintendo to "allow" me to buy their console whenever they please?

Good point right there. Nintendo's been complete morons these days. They act like customers have to put up with all kinda shit they throw.

Pretty much why i hate nintendo and their current advertisement antics. Just sell the freaking console stop doing shit like this. Its one of the reasons why don't have a Wii and why i starting to dislike them. Since i had the original NES and SNES and the like.

It still might not be Nintendo's fault, maybe they're just not making them fast enough because they can't.

If thats the case then fine, say that. Don't say things like its to build hype. No one cares about hype when it comes to consoles thats already out.

It's really just people who say that. The official company stance is that it isn't holding any units back.

Personally, I think that the notion of them holding consoles back is simply absurd, simply because it's production rates are the highest out of the current generation consoles (24 million in under 18 months).

It's more of a demand issue than a supply issue.

Yes, you can build our hypes up.... for other systems.

Send them at the soonest date and people will still buy them. Sending them later can make people not want them.

Sorry but I'm not paying $50-100 more on Amazon and E-bay just to play more Mario crap. If I can't find it in retail stores or online for MSRP, I ain't buying it.

Hmmm, and here I thought things were just starting to settle down and even out. I was visiting one of my friends who works in the electronics department at our local Wal-mart earlier this week (one of the smaller ones in a town of only around 5,000 people) and noticed that four Wii's were out on the floor and he said they had around six more in the back.

Not sure how they managed to get them, but there weren't any people waiting to get them like they would usually be at that time.

I was in a Best Buy the other day (day of Mario Kart Release) and I literally counted about 25-30 Wii's on the floor. Then when I was paying, I saw a trolley with about 5 more in it. I think it's safe to say that Nintendo is doing what it can to meet demand.

I think this is hilarious though. One theory comes out and suddenly people posting here believe it and say Nintendo can go to hell. If I told you that Sony was investing all its profits from the PS3 in buying AIDS-injections as a plan to infect the entire American community, would you suddenly jump on their asses too? I doubt it.

Horrible example. Why would they build up hype, when its already hott as it is? Its just a way to make people hate them, like myself who has yet to even get a Wii, due to the fact its always sold out.

I doubt they would have 25-30 Wiis at a single location, most stores, even Nintendo World only stock 10 or less, so maybe those were empty floor cases to display the product like most stores do.

The were completely legit. I picked up at least 6 of them to check because I also couldn't believe it. Unless the boxes were filled with bricks, which I doubt. And when I was back in the store just 6 days later, they were all gone. I have no clue how it worked out, maybe they were withholding them until Mario Kart came out? Hell if I know, I didn't ask.

I love how people assume I'm lying, haha. Yeah please give me attention.
