Sid Shuman from Game Pro has apparently found a fix for that freezing problem Grand Theft Auto IV has and guess what? It's very, very simple. He says that all you need to do is log off the Playstation Network before loading the game or simply unplugging the internet connection. So yes, it's only been tried with the Playstation 3 version, so nothing from the Xbox 360 unless you want to experiment yourself. No word from Rockstar to confirm this, however.

Given the apparent simplicity of the problem, I'm hoping Rockstar will come up with a quick and dirty patch next week, but we'll have to wait and see. For the moment, disconnecting the PS3's online capabilities seems to work just fine.

Other readers have also suggested disabling your PS3's wallpaper or, in desperate cases, deleting the game's save files and stored game content from your PS3's hard drive. Which obviously means you'll have to re-start your progress with a fresh install.

Someone from the GTA4 PS3 forums tried this and it also worked. But wouldn't this also make online GTA inaccessible?

Either log out or completely disconnect...if I didn't do this last night, I wasn't gonna be able to get on. Didn't realize online was so integrated with single player.

It worked for me, but I found a new solution.

I opened the PS3 browser, cleared cookies and all that other crap. Then, I disabled the media server. Works perfectly now.

Well, this will make it impossible for these unlucky PS3 owners to play GTA IV online, wouldn't it?
And what's the media server, Guticb?

Better that then not playing at all.

Why in the hell did everyone get a thumbs down?

And the media server is a feature to let you stream music/videos from PCs in your network to your PS3.

Turning off the internet and network, as well as disabling the autosave feature worked for a little while, but now the game freezes up again. The worst part about this is that Rockstar is completely silent. Not one comment about this, not even so much as the standard, "Sorry folks. We're aware of the problem and are working to resove it."

Nothing. That is a little disrespectful, to be honest.

Actually there was another article stated that they didn't know how to solve this, and then another article stated that Sony is Willing to help R* to fix this. Maybe thats why we haven't heard much.

Still doesn't excuse a lack of any statement.

I never said it was, just stating that they don't want to say anything until they have fix the problem.

Again if R* has no idea what the problem is(since they said it themselves), what type of statement do you want to hear?
