The Stargate TCG has been going on for a while, but has only recently begun to pick up steam. A short preview from 1up recently popped up which was worth reading, however.

Mission success is based on your team's strength in one of four categories: culture, science, combat, and ingenuity. For example, SG-1 commander Jack O'Neill is strong in combat, nerdy linguist Dr. Daniel Jackson is a cultured genius, and astrophysicist Samantha Carter is a science whiz. The villain phase plays pretty similarly, as you take on the role of Stargate baddies like Apophis and Anubis in an attempt to stop your opponent from succeeding.

In our time with SOTCG's public beta, we found the game pretty easy to pick up thanks to extensive, well-written tutorials, but we also noticed that we kept getting a lot of the same cards again and again -- even though we had access to an extensive deck -- which made our games feel a bit repetitive. SOTCG might be a bit too slow-paced and complicated for those unfamiliar with trading-card games, but it seems like it should be worth a look for Stargate fans who are into stuff like Magic: The Gathering (a pretty substantial number, we'd imagine) when the game releases officially on April 18.

I have to admit, as big of a fan of Stargate I am, I have absolutely no plans to try out the Trading Card Game at all. No offense to those who want to try it out, but it looks boring to me.

It's actually quite funny that they would do a Trading-Card game for something like that. The intended audience for Stargate isn't exactly the intended audience of Trading-Card games. =/

Well Trading Card games are pretty big business and I don't know I think stargate fans may actually be into this, younger fans at least. I know I was really into TGC games when I was younger.
