We knew GTA IV got a perfect 10 on Gamespot, but the news here is the score was actually taken up a few notches from a previous 9.5. Database error, or disturbing activity?

I know most gamers don't give a shit about ethics and the videogame press, but if you can't appreciate what's going on here then something is seriously wrong with you. Now I can't officially say what caused this change, but given Gamespot's record of pandering to videogame publishers and firing their own employees for not giving high enough scores what do you think is going on here? It's insane!

Now I love the GTA franchise. I'd go as far as saying that it's my favorite franchise ever. However, the hype and bullshit reviews surrounding this game are making me sick. Not that reviews for a huge game like this really matter, but to put it bluntly many of the reviews for this game are bought and paid for in some way and are far from honest. I've always said that major AAA games never get bad scores and this game is the perfect example of why that is.

Well, considering it's GameSpot, I'm not that surprised or mortified. I wish less people would visit that site because I really don't agree with how they do things in general...

Never really liked them, however im not entirely surprised by this. I also question IGN score as well if that wasn't a malfunction or database error.

Now why would they give it a perfect 10 when the users rate GTA4 as a paltry 8.8?
Something about that just doesn't make sense.

Agreed. This doesn't make a lot of sense IMO...

The official review is just one persons opinion whereas hundreds of users will rate it and even one low rate will take the average down.

        Yip.
Its funny though because its the same situation on Metacritic, which compiles and averages reviews.

That user rating is a load of crap, it already had a rating before launch so I'm inclined to ignore it.

They get games before launch to review. Most outlets do.

Didn't another site make the same "mistake" a few days ago? Sounds like GTA IV is one big wank-fest for the gaming sites. They make a "mistake" by giving it a lower score than 10/10, then they have to "fix" it. *cough* Doesn't exactly sound legitimate when more than one site has done a similar thing.

No video game deserves a perfect ten. Not a single one. The day when they turn an FPS into a good game with much better gameplay, longer playtime, and the graphics are really real, then give it a ten. That's loooong from now.

And Gamespot can't even acknowledge their favorite game has some bugs or difficult parts in it? Pussies.

I agree that no video game should get a perfect ten. Even if you are rating it by comparing it to all of the past games and not thinking about future titles, there will still be some flaws.

      quote what 10's mean
10.0: Prime This exceedingly rare score refers to a game that is as perfect as a game can aspire to be at its time of release. Obviously, the constantly changing standards for technology and gameplay will probably make this game obsolete some day, but at its time of release, a game earning this score could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way.
Come guys this shouldn't be new, 10 isn't perfect its just what that means above.

You do realise that the sentence means that according to them the game is perfect at the moment, therefore 10 is a perfect...

Not entirely. They aren't saying it's perfect straight up, they are simply saying that the game the best of the bunch, as in, the ones that have been released in same time period and such.

It's ratings, not perfection. Think of the Olympics, say the swimming competition. A guy dives off, great form and landing, and get's three 10's from the judges. That doesn't mean that it was the most perfect dive they have ever seen, more like it's one of the better ones.

For the record this was Gamespots view of what a 10 means. I have an IGN version if anyone wants me to post it?
Ah screw it here's their view.

          quote IGN Rating definitiion
          10.0 (Masterful)
No game is absolutely perfect, but 10s represent the pinnacle of gaming brilliance. It doesn't get any better than this, and products in this range are virtually flawless. This is like winning the lottery on your birthday. It takes a rare and special game to earn a 10 from IGN.

For once I have to agree with Final Blade on this one.
