Microsoft attempts to compete with Wii Fit: 360 games are good exercise too

shuandrew | 3 days ago | News | Wii XBOX 360
With Wii Fit selling by the bucketload, Microsoft has attempted to make a tenuous link between its Xbox 360 games and fitness by sponsoring the first National Family Fitness Day and chucking Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 at the center of it.
Without the same kind of product, Microsoft has found another way to build bridges between gaming and fitness - by sponsoring the BGCA's first-ever National Family Fitness Day and placing Konami's Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 at the centre of it.

EA have already announced their intention to directly compete with Wii Fit, as I said there, I don't think the market is that big.

DDR is good for a nice cardio workout, but only if you're on a high enough difficult level. One step every 2 seconds is hardly going to keep anyone fit.

Apparently you haven't tried the insane difficulty ones.

I have and its no cake walk, its insane.

DDR is far better than Wii fit for exercise. You lose more weight and actually get fit.
I know i have before. I think i might take it out and play some DDR. Benefit of DDR makes you a better dancer

*step right* *step left* *jump* *step back* *step right*

No, it doesn't teach you how to become a better dancer.

Granted, it definitely helps you get fit better than WiiFit, but it's so damn hard that you won't be having fun with it.

Have you played DDR for an extensive amount of time and for years? I have, and i can honestly say it helped me to be a better dancer than when i first played DDR.

LMAO thats not even the right steps. there isn't even a jump. Also i played the arcade versions and well, some even have a bar to hold when doing the steps.
Its not difficult unless you play the harder modes or the arcade ones in the mall.

Final Blade, how about real dancing? Maybe you learn how to play DDR better. It doesn't make you a better dancer; there's so much more to dancing than just stepping on plates.

DDR has made you a better dancer? What the hell do you dance like?

DDR is better for exercise when doing it in the arcade and doing the crazy hard modes. For them modes the bar helps a LOT.. and the added bonus for them modes, is having an audience of girls wondering how the hell you're better at DDR than them, haha.

        The DDR home versions are almost a waste of the series. The pads are nowhere near as good for Heavy rated songs, and in reality you could just download StepMania and load it up with all the songs. The whole point anyway is all of our first impressions of when we first saw DDR; a flashing bright loud machine that played catchy j-pop music. If you can't rock at it in public with the music cranked up then what's the point? It's almost a nirvana-like state... ;______;

It gets your cardio, stamina, and legs a good workout, and if you aren't a filthy bar-grabber (I suggested to an arcade once that they wrap barbed wire around the bars) then your balance goes up too.

You shouldn't be grabbing the bar. Why not just get 3 other people to push the arrows for you?

DM did mention that the heavy difficulties are a good workout.

I think Wii Fit is meant to ease you into the weight loss. It's definitely less action-packed than DDR.

But then DDR is meant to be fun, and if you happen to lose weight, all the better.

Wii Fit is designed exlusively to make you, well, fit.

Well i can't believe they are actually trying to compete, i mean they both might work but it's not that hard to just go out and go for a run or play sport? I mean i find that a lot funner.

I really don't like it how Microsoft have to compete with Nintendo with everything, but it helps bring out the best in the two manufacturers. One thing's for sure, mr friend has a DDR pad and even he says it stinks compared to the real thing.

I was always pretty good at DDR. I was able to beat most of them on Heavy, but there were always some that were just too tiring and fast for me. I admit, it is a good workout. However I'd rather use a gym, or even run for thirty minutes for that matter, than play video games.
