Remember my story about Mass Effect for the PC needing to be authenticated every 10 days? Well Bioware and EA have apparently had a change of heart and changed the system. Now you will only need to enter a code when first installing the game and when you purchase additional content. No word on what's happening to Spore.

After revealing yesterday that Mass Effect PC would employ an online activation system that requires users to re-authenticate their game every ten days, BioWare and EA have decided to back down and listen to those who actually purchase their games. In other words, the community.

BioWare community manager Jay Watamaniuk confirmed today that Mass Effect PC will not make use of SecuROM’s ten day re-authentication. Instead, owners of the game will be prompted to activate their copy when the game is launched for the first time or when downloading new content. Additionally, players will not be required to have the original disc in their PC’s DVD drive after completing the installation and activation process.

Now that's much more reasonable. The sales would have taken a hit if they kept their 10 day re-authentication rubbish.

Thank god. This game may not end up killing me from frustration after all. I knew BioWare had some common sense.

Still no word on Spore though.
