Playstation's big boss Kaz Hirai only recently announced that he believes the PS3 will win the console 'race'.
But he's not just content with the PS3 beating Nintendo and Microsoft - He wants the PS3 to beat every form of entertainment ...

Forget Microsoft and Nintendo – PS3’s content can take on movies, TV and the web in the battle for the wider entertainment space.

That was the message from SCE president Kaz Hirai as he spoke to MCV at this week’s PlayStation Day, at which the platform holder revealed a string of triple-A titles and online community projects.

“I think that PS3, PS2 and PSP are all entertainment platforms so I feel that our competition is not Microsoft or Nintendo, but basically any form of entertainment that is competing for the consumers’ attention,” said Hirai.

Agreed. They're a great company and make some great stuff, but wanting the PS3 to beat all other types of entertainment systems is quite ridiculous. Yeah, yeah, it can do all the things you need but that's not the point.

Haha, I laughed a little bit at first after reading this. The PS3 is a good system, but the Wii and 360 have their strong points. As to beating every other form of entertainment, keep dreaming.

      Final Blade May 10, 08
Yes but the Wii and 360 isn't an entertainment system, at least not the Wii. This has nothing to do with gaming. It has to do with the PS3 being a multimedia HUB.

If Sony can get some serious add ons to the PS3 and make them work great, i have no doubt they can compete with any form of entertainment. After all Sony isn't just a game company they thrive on being in the entertainment business like Camera's TV's and the like.

So its not entirely impossible, but its not going to easy.

Yeah cause the 360 doesn't wirelessly connect with a nearby PC (or in my case laptop) with Windows Media Centre.

Read my post i said "at least not the Wii" Which means i made a mistake when i stated the early part.

Yeah 'cos i can't be anywhere in the world in a Wi-Fi hotspot with my PSP and stream music, photos, movies, play Lair (if the disc was in my PS3) heck even turn the *bleep*er on and off from my PS3.

Why should i edit the post when thats exactly what i wanted to say? I usual know what i want to say before typing it, when i was typing it i added that in to show everyone what i meant.

Edit: Um not really, your just looking for reasons to think that.

I thing a lot of you guys have misinterpreated the article, it says they want to compete with other forms of entertainment, not beat them.

Nobody competes against anyone without wanting to win.

In Capitalism? Only way to do that is to establish a monopoly in some sort of market...and it's pretty *bleep*ing hard to do that in the Electronic Entertainment one.

That being said, I can see where they're coming from...like the PS3 rivaling Blu-ray players and all...but if they're talking about their gaming platforms, they should focus on gaming..leave the other entertainment categories with their OTHER products.

You cant have monopolies in capitalist markets.

If one companies starts to get a monopoly their watched alot by that organization(forgot name)

Its also the reason that MS gets fined so much.

Oh sure they want to beat them, but they know it isn't possible, not even Sony could think they could take on the entire technology industry

      Final Blade May 10, 08
I made some points in my above post. They're already a entertainment company who competes with others every day. However i think there's a hidden message in the article stating they want to try to win. I mean what company doesn't. It pretty much how GG stated it.

Nothing impossible thats a fact of life.

        ali3n May 10, 08
Hidden message? It's quite blatant that the minute they decided to compete with every other form of entertainment out there, they would do everything to win.

Sorry, Sony, but Walmart already reserved world domination of the 21st century. Maybe you could go look elsewhere?

Every ones competing with everyone in the entertainment industry.

people are like "Hmm, should I see that movie or buy that game."

    Everyone is competing with everyone.

The PS3 can hardly compete with the Wii and 360 (it's getting raped in Hardware and software sales), let alone every form of entertianment. Why does Sony think the PS3 is so great, and will obliterate the competition, when it's losing this "console race" terribly?

If I were Kaz, I'd focus more on catching up to the other two consoles rather than jumping from little sales to best form of equiptment out there.

Sony r not take over meh world!

But they have a great deal of control over a lot of hardware, Blu-ray and many other TVs and the like. Just because their systems fail doesn't mean they fail as a whole

    RabidChinaGirl May 10, 08
Yeah, a lot of critics of Sony have pointed out that they're trying to cover too much ground. That whole Jack of all trades, master of none thing totally applies to them.
