It is said that Rockstar's release of Grand Theft Auto: IV has spiked the sales for Microsoft's Xbox-360 consoles by 54 percent. Leaving Playstation 3 gamers at less than 40 percent playing GTA: IV.

According to news reports that claim to have the inside scoop on Microsoft's sales data, Redmond is the big winner. Reportedly Xbox 360 console sales jumped 54 percent. Other reports estimate more than 60 percent of GTA IV games went to Xboxers, leaving less than 40 percent for PlayStation 3 gamers.
The GTA IV release might help sell consoles on the margins. If people were on the edge about buying a next-generation console and they wanted GTA IV, this could have pushed them off the fence and convinced them to buy either an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3," O'Rourke said.

    Someone fails at comprehension.

This is for purchases of new consoles, meaning that GTA:IV has had a lesser effect on PS3 sales, not in total users playing.

You saying I'm not a real approver Finalblade?

I wish people would stop saying what is and isn't news, this article is recent, has correct and grammar and punctuation and a good description and of course pertains news about the gaming world. There is no reason why it shouldn't have been approved

Does it honestly matter if one game sells a certain console? And if I'm not mistaken didn't Halo 3 have a huge impact on 360 sales? A lot of my friends who have a 360 said they hadn;t even played the 1st or 2nd games in the halo series and thought it would be convenient to buy their 360's with halo 3.

Lol, not surprising. A lot of people I know by a console for a certain game. A lot of my friends bought a 360 for Halo 3. Only, GTA IV is bigger than Halo 3... in my opinion, anyway.

When you think about it, sales between 360 and PS3 are basically dead even. 360 had 60% of the GTA sales to PS3's 40%, but when you look at console sales data, you'll notice that, taking in consideration just 360 and PS3, the two are split 60-40. Hence, the same percentage of players purchased the game for both systems, there are just more 360 owners than PS3 owners.

Jesus Christ Xbox360 has a larger install base, of course there is going to be more sales. Percentage wise, its not as unbalanced as reports are leading people to believe.
