The A-Z of Gaming T-Shirt

Kotaku have gone through the A-Z of gaming from the winner of the Shirt.woot.com t-shirt contest. Some of them could be a little better, like Excite Bike, and Galaga, which I've never heard of. But most of them are pretty good.

And to wrap things up today, here's "The ABCs of Gaming," from a t-shirt design contest at Shirt.woot.com. The contest closed this week. The latest on the site shows another shirt claiming 2nd place in this derby so, who knows, maybe it won. I'm sure the ordering information will follow.

For now, take a long look and see if you can name all 26. I can name about 19 offhand. There's a spoiler solution after the jump.

        Well agreed. That game barely sold any copies, so I don't know why Luigi would be there. I guess that those people couldn't think of anyone else better to put there =p.

      All of the titles on the list are classic, breakthrough games.

      What were you not born until 2001 or something? Excite Bike and Galaga were great games during their time, and Virtua Fighter has been around as long as Tekken (or longer? I'm not really sure).

      Excitebike is a really old game. It was in Animal Crossing GCN as a clip part of it.

    Sweet. I need to get one of those. What every hardcore, classic gamers should have IMO.

    A: Asteroids - Pretty Good, classic and well known.
    B: Bomberman - Ditto
    C: Contra - Ditto Ditto
    D: Donkey Kong - Ditto Ditto Ditto
    E: Excite Bike - Nothing better? Well, it is classic, isn't it?
    F: Frogger - Classic again....FF would have been hard to work (but Double Fs)
    G: Galaga - Isn't that also something of a classic? GTA Would have worked too...
    H: Halo - Meh, it has a huge fan-following...
    I: Indiana Jones (kinda cheating, but OK) - Cheating because that isn't officially part of his name (his name is 'Dr. Jones')...Well, there isn't anything better under 'I'?
    J: Joust - Again, classic....Not a lot of 'J' games...Well known ones anyhow...
    K: Katamari - Popular, and it works with "K", so yeah....
    L: Luigi - Err what? Not a game, but a character....
    M: Megaman - Sweet
    N: Ninja Gaiden - Good choice.
    O: Oregon Trail - Nothing better? I do believe I liked this game though.
    P: Pitfall - What'll they put? A character and a big round 'hole' desig?
    Q: Quake - OK. Not a lot of 'Q' games anyhow...Q-bert maybe.
    R: Rayman - Alright. I feel like there could have been a better choice?
    S: Super Mario - Alright, not surprising.
    T: Tetris - Classic (a bit tired, but it's spiritual replacements are popular, like Lumines)
    U: Ultima - OK
    V: Virtua fighter - OK
    W: Warcraft - Biggest name Online MMORPG, yes?
    X: X-Men (also a little cheaty) - Somewhat.
    Y: Yoshi - OK...Not a lot of famous "Y" games or characters...
    Z: Zelda - Zelda...Princess....Not bad I suppose. Games are well known.

    List seems to mix up titles and characters....Like "Super Mario" instead of "Mario". "Luigi" instead of "Super Mario"....

    Heard of everything on this list, Galaga is a pretty famous arcade game. Though Excite Bike isn't too well known, it was fun for a sports game.

    For a second I had a splinter of hope that Half-Life may be H, but once again, my hopes were miserably crushed.

    Those who don't know games like Galaga or Excite Bike are most likely younger gamers who didn't grow up with Comodor, NES, etc. Technically that Kotaku article is a bunch of uninformed BS. Woot is the best place to find awesome deals.

    They have "contests" which they call a derby for T-Shirt designs where you have a single theme. That theme was the ABC's. It just so happened that they themed the design around video games. The current day the shirt will go for $10 + $5 shipping. Any other day the shirt will sell for $15 + $5 shipping.

    I loved Excite Bike when I was a kid. (Road Fighter was better, though. )
    These days, people will be like "Eeeewwwww" about side scrolling facing games.

      Not every game can be put on the T-Shirt unfortunately, unless the T-Shirt was huge, which most likely would never get a T-Shity big enough.

      And they have plenty of good game on the shirt already =)

    Most of those things that are on the T-Shirt are rather old games, or new games. I like almost all of those games on the T-Shirt. THere are a few I don't know about, but I think that they made good choices =P

    Except for M, it should've been Mario =P
