But that shouldn't detract from the original FFVII itself. Heck, FFVII is the reason RPGs are the way they are today - It's the reason RPGs became popular outside Japan ... That's a damn fine achievement for any game to have. And GR wonder why it got praised so highly? Don't they remember back when it was first released?
It was a good game - it was friggin' revolutionary. It's just a shame there are so many people nowadays who go out of their way to prove how bad they think it is.
But hey, I suppose that makes me a "fangirl" for liking FFVII - Because nowadays only a fangirl or fanboy can enjoy it.
So poo to idiots who say otherwise. And poo to Squeenix for ruining a good game - It's their fault people are sick of FFVII. [/end rant]
Final Fantasy VII is the only Final Fantasy that was anywhere near good enough for me to play for 60+ hours. Just because there are a tonne of annoying wapanese wannabe's who bum it into oblivion does not make it a bad game.
No, FFVII is NOT overrated. It's just that Square Enix is trying to milk it too much.
I may not be the biggest fan of FFVII but I know that game was a masterpiece in its time, maybe a bit overhyped but one of the best games on the Playstation and perhaps any Sony console. It doesn't really deserve a place on that list.
The rest I don't care for
I'll use the example of GTAIV. Although it may not be the best game of all time, all people say is how it will never come close to, for example, LoZ: OoT. Which is a great game, but I still think people just disregard newer games, usually for the reason that it "can't beat the classics". I don't see why more modern games can't be, or become, classics.
Oh, and Sonic Adventure was awesome.
That's not to say that I stopped liking the game...it's just that...it looks and feels "Ugh" compared to even "The Twin Snakes", the game I thought could never match the original.
better then that crap game that came out a couple years back on the next gen consoles
I remember I recently played through SA again. I did notice that I died rather easy (mostly through glitches), but still, it's one of the best 3D Sonic Games out there. I still can't help but agree with GR's opinion on FFVII. It's the only FF game with more than 2 spin-offs. The game was great, but please, let the great giant sleep.
Half if not most those games were epic in its time. I loved Oregon Trail, i remember playing it at school back in the day.
Gothic Girl summed up my feelings on FF7, i still don't believe it should be on the list.
FF7 still proves, today, that RPG's can be great even without the amazing graphics that todays game has. FF7 for me, is the greatest.
Of course i may be biased on this front since it was my first FF game and RPG i ever played, so i may put it higher than most.
Besides graphics i think everything about the game truly defined RPG's.
And TMNT was awesome. Hard, but certainly worthy of a classic.
But Back to the Future did suck. Can't see how that'd be a classic other than the films.
FFVII was good no matter how much people like to hate on it, and I think all FF fans can be comfortable knowing that they, at least, appreciate it. I would still play it if I had a copy that worked...
