In what is surely a crushing blow to fans the creator of the Ninja Gaiden franchise Tomonobu Itagaki has just stated in a interview with gaming website Kotaku that he has no plans of creating any more Ninja Gaiden games and that "I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise." So enjoy Ninja Gaiden 2, because it looks like after this that Ryu is hanging up his katana for good.

In an interview with Kotaku earlier today Team Ninja's Tomonobu Itagaki said that he doesn't plan on making any more Ninja Gaiden games for any platforms following the release of Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox 360.

"Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I'm not planing on making any other games in the series," Itagaki said through a translator. "So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise.

"I think we were able to achieve everything we wanted with this game so anything else would be extraneous."

    Thats horrible.
I really think they should at least release an anime style one sometime. The concept character art for this one rocked.

In a take-off on that, I think someone should make an Anime/Manga based on it....If they haven't already >_>

It would sell, that is for sure....

WTF?! ITAGAKI, WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING?! THIS IS A SUCCESSFUL AND GREAT SERIES AND YOU'RE GOING TO JUST DROP IT?! THIS BETTER BE A *bleep*ING JOKE!

I apologize for that outburst...but I sure as hell hope he reconsiders this...Ryu Hayabusa is my all-time favorite game character. It's likely that NG II will be a blast, and considering that it's the 'grand finale' my anticipation for it has gone up considerably.

He's Japanese, developers from that region all seem to have the idea that saying a game will be the last ever will make it sell more copies and it works, then once everyone has bought it they say "hmmm i thought about it and there will be a 3rd", Hideo Kojima does it all the time.

Um why is this labeled under the PS3?
    Its a 360 exclusive.

Anyway i agree with Nikki, it seems to be a selling strategy.
Besides he can't be that dumb to stop making a successful series.

Because there's a Ninja Gaiden title on the PS3, maybe?

        Final Blade May 16, 08
However this is talking about NG2 being the last. And to be honest from what i know NGS is the only one going to be on the PS3 anyway. It doesn't affect the PS3 at all.

Hell Itagaki didn't even make Sigma it was a separate party.

@Ameer: Yes but more sales because of this is better regardless.

And the fact the PS3's only getting one Ninja Gaiden title* is PS3 news.

          * which I'm going to pick up on the way home from work now that GTA IV's been completed.

    quote
Um why is this labeled under the PS3?
Because the interview concerns the PS3, however briefly

      Final Blade May 16, 08
How does it concern the PS3? NGS is already out, Itagaki didn't even make the game for PS3, and they didn't have plans to even make more after sigma.

This has been known for months, i can't see this news at all relating to the PS3.

      NG2 is a 360 exclusive.

@Donnelly This sums up my answer to you and SM.

Right the PS3 is no longer getting Ninja Gaiden games. The fact the latest NG game is a 360 exclusive is irrelevant.

This is news regarding the PS3 whether you like it or not.

Well he is questioned about another NG coming to PS3, he says that not another game is coming to PS3. It is mentioned and therefore legitimate to link it to the PS3 section
