Apparently, Ubi_Wuzzi from the Haze Forums has answered as question that asked, 'Will Haze have a mandatory install? ' and the answer was a flat, yes and it'll cost you 4GB. Go to the source to view some more Q&A, for the online of Haze.

Will Haze have a mandatory install?
[DL] You will need to go through a minimal install (about 4 Gigs) but not the whole game.

Is friendly fire ALWAYS enabled for both sides?
[DL] Yup. Overdosing a trooper wouldn't be much used if he couldn't shoot his friends! The moral of the story is: watch your fire!

How many maps are going to be on the online gaming ?
[DL] In addition to the whole campaign playable in coop, you mean? Well, we have 12 levels which are made of two variants each of six locations.

Will there be a mapmaker and an option to put these maps online, like in Timesplitters?
[DL] We could add it in but we'd have to delay the game for another year or so - any takers?

How sad. I bet that this may very well hurt its sales. I for one was never planning on getting it, and I'm sure people who also bought DMC4/Lost Planet are quesioning now whether to get it or not based on the install.

Devs have got to off there asses and do some better programming, at this rate their won't be any space on my PS3 left!

At least its not as bad as Capcom, two ports from the 360 and both requiring installs

Personally, I'd prefer the installs to be optional, but then I do have a 250 Gb HDD, so the forced installs aren't a problem. Not yet, anyway.

I doubt you would rather not have the installation and be stuck with bad loading and much worse streamed rendering.

Regardless, if anyone would not get a game just because of the install file, then you probably had no intention of getting it anyway. Thats a pretty pathetic reason not to get a game. It doesn't have anything to do with the gameplay. And if you can afford a $500 console, you should really look into a larger hard drive.

Remember guys, If 360 had a Harddrive standard than their games will also be Mandatory Install. So this is a doubled edge sword case.

However iLLmatic makes a great point.

The original Xbox had a Hard Drive as standard and I don't remember any installs on that.

Yes well, the 360 makes up for that with a 12x DVD drive, so the loading times are still fast.

    Bleh, mandatory installs annoy me.

I'll still rent Haze, yeah, but it's still annoying that I have to wait 20 minutes after I get home to play a new game.

    @iLLmatic

I hear what you are saying, and I agree that the installs do help. But they don't have to be so damn big! I wouldn't mind if they where like 1-2GB. But 4 or 5 is way to much.

Well that's it, I'm not getting Haze [/sarcasm]

But seriously, that download is gonna take bloody two days to download! Stupid move for FRD.

Who said anything about a download? It's similar to Oblivion. The game installs the cache file to the game data folder from the disc, when you first start the game.

Oblivion's file I believe downloaded whilst you played the game. Most other games require you put some time aside solely for downloading.

        Seeker X May 17, 08
No, I think Oblivion first installed the file before you played.

Hmm...well, once I accidentally deleted mine, and went to play the game, it was slow (real slow) for a while, and then it sped up. I went back to my Game Files and found that the install was back again, but it wasn't as big as before. So I played again, and returned to the Game Save folder, and lo and behold, the file was larger.

And not once was there a download screen.

I don't know about installing the game on the fly, mostly because if you don't have game data and you have a pretty advanced save file, the game is gonna crash before the game even has a chance to load.

This is so annoying, especially for people who got stuck with the 40GB sku, I've only had my console for about 2 months and 3 games and a couple of demos down and I have less than half my hdd left. I'll probably still get Haze as I enjoyed the demo, but these installs are a real pain in the ass.

Red is right, oblivions installs as you play more. Wich I think a lot more devs should do it that way.

      Red 9 May 18, 08
I don't see what's wrong with doing it that way. I can download whole demos while playing videos or playing actual games, and it gets donwloaded just fine. There's really no need to have to dedicate some twenty minutes for the sake of an install.

i was just looking through my game saved data utility and realised that uncharted takes up no space. And has no load times , i wish devs knew how to use the ps3 like naughty dog.

      Final Blade May 18, 08
Well maybe they focused more on Load times than the other stuff these games will.
