A global survey has judged the PlayStation 3 to be the most popular console among teens today. The result sure comes as no surprise to those in the know as the vastly varied choice of games and the multitude of features all combine to make the PS3 a formidable contender for best console.

A Global Youth Survey conducted by Habbo, the second one it's done apparently, has revealed that PlayStation 3 "is the console of choice for teens today".

The report asked 58,486 teens between the ages of 11 and 18 in a global survey across 31 markets. 69 percent refer to PS3 as 'great' or 'good'. This was followed closely by the Nintendo Wii at 64 percent and Xbox 360 with 58 percent. So there's not much in it by the looks of it.

PS3 beat Wii in every age group except the 11 to 12 year olds and Wii was more popular among girls up to 16. Are you surprised to learn that it's the "favoured female choice overall"? Thought not.

The results also showed that while Xbox 360 is less popular in Europe and Asia, its popularity in the US is much better. It's the most popular console in Mexico and Colombia and takes second place in the US, Canada, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

"The results of this survey are interesting as it gives us an insight into which brands these teens aspire to as the level of ownership does not correspond to the consoles' popularity," said the people behind the survey. "By order of ownership, the Wii leads, followed by the Xbox 360 and PS3."

Did they ask if these Teens have an Xbox 360 or Wii already, since obviously the PS3 is gonna be next on most kids lists if they already one one or both of the other consoles.

Btw i didn't read it all...

Of the teens surveyed, 24 percent own a Wii, with 21 percent and 23 percent owning a PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. The results do suggest significant growth potential, with each of these consoles there is another 20 percent planning on buying one of these consoles in the next 12 months. Wii and PS3 have the most sales potential.
      Well thats it.
Anyway im shocked to find out that 11-12 year olds like the Wii and its more popular with girls and boys favor the PS3.

      Interesting read though.

I knew that the XBox360 wouldn't be the most popular seller, but I did know that it was either going to be the Wii or the PS3. It's comming close =P

Xbox 360 is less popular in Europe

Hmm, IMO, I would say otherwise.

But I still like it though..

The PS3 is going to sink in cost really soon, since it's selling out really fast, and then it will gradually sell out slower, and slower =p.

Geez, just goes to show how stupid the majority of teen population is, why wate money on something that's just a PS2 with better graphics and crap?

      lol.

You do realise the PS2 was one of the greatest consoles ever, yeah? If the PS3 was just a PS2 with improved graphics it wouldn't be sitting 3rd in the console war, now would it?

I would love the PS3 to emulate the success of the PS2.

Because it's not just "a PS2 with better graphics and crap"? And maybe because of Blu Ray, and other great games which are soon to be coming out?

The PS3 has a lot more features I have been told, not just better graphics. Also the majority of the games for PS3 are outstanding n popularity.

So Big A2 what would you have them buy?

That doesn't make sence, I'm just saying that the PS3 is just not much of a big step forward for Sony. So what if it has Blu-Ray? I see almost no important difference to normall DVD.

Well that's my option. Go on, give me another 3 thumb downs. I don't care.

Really, lets take a look here:
        1. It has a hard-drive where you can store Game saves, music, Videos, Photo's...Did ps2 have that nope.
        2. Better online integration than the PS2, friends listing.
        3. PSN, allowing you to buy games and storing them on the Hard-drive, easy access to games, did PS2 have that nope.
        4. Blu-ray has better storage space which allows uncompressed data, which means better gaming experience. One of the reasons why MGS4 can never be on DVD-9 or ported, Its just too big and takes up 50GB of space, a few things is compressed, but 95% of it is uncompressed.

The Cell Processor has better potential to make gaming experience that much better.

You need educate on the differences, cause PS3 right now is a shit load better than the PS2, despite its small library.

I can't really say I'm surprised. It was only a matter of time before the PS3 got some recognition.

Granted it's a year or so overdue, but...

Really? All my friends would rather have or already have a Wii. All they talk about is Brawl. I'd think the PSP would follow up. Lately a lot of some guys I know talk about hommebrew and all.

I guess that young people and Older people would prefer Wii's and BBox 360's, and then inbetween that is the PS3. I do prefer the look of the PS3, and this is no surprise =p

I would say Xbox360 and PS3 were for teenages and young adults, and Wii is a more family console (All ages)

It is the teen choice. Not the teen owned or going to be bought. Most of us don't have the money. If I get enough money though,I probably will buy one.

This is not why it's the "teen choice" by any means.

I wouldent call it vastly varied anyway.
