Rob Yescombe of Free Radical defended the PS3 exclusive shooter, saying that even classics like Goldeneye got scores like 4/10 when it was released - much like Haze got a 4.5 from IGN. He is also optimistic as to what people will think of it, as it received positive reviews from Famitsu and PSM.

The Haze review scores have been a bit of a mixed bag so far, with some painfully low scores being slapped on Ubi's shooter. But, in its defense, Free Radical says that "even GoldenEye got 4/10 when it first came out."

The lowest score dished out yet is a damming 4.5/10, which was surprising after the game scored well in Famitsu (34/40) and the Italian version of PlayStation Magazine (9/10). But Free Radical's Rob Yescombe has brushed it off.

"Haze has had mixed reviews, but even GoldenEye got a 4/10 when it first came out," he says, pointing to the N64 classic which several members of Free Radical worked on as former Rare employees.

"With a 9/10 in the Italian PSM, and an extremely positive review in Famitsu, we're looking forward to people playing Haze and making a judgment for themselves," added an optimistic Yescombe.

If the demo is anything to go by Haze is nowhere near the quality of Goldeneye.

I think it's time to face the facts that the reason Goldeneye was a runaway success was because there was barely any FPS's in the N64 bar games like Turok or the generic Duke Nukem 3D lookalike. The Bond thing probably had a huge appeal as well. That's not to say the game was bad at all..but it definetly needed a lot to work on...needless to say that Perfect Dark made up for it.

Btw, Rob is pretty *bleep*ing cool.

The four out of ten for Goldeneye was probably someone who throw it out for the fact it was movie game and an early console FPS. Haze has no excuse for 'misratings' of the sort.

Its a fair comparison both Haze and Goldeneye had/have dated shooting mechanics, they both had/have poor AI... I mean he could be right on this, will we love this game as much as Goldeneye i doubt it...

Of course not, not with the overload of FPS's that are out there. People have access to games that have superb features...for example; The Orange Box. Now if this were on the Wii, it would be a completely different story.

I think your argument is flawed tbh. Here's why:

I played Goldeneye for the first time ever last week. It was *bleep*ing awesome.

        Now, I own a 360, so I've got no shortage of FPS's.

Nope, it's called nostalgia. For example, I would play the original Resident Evil and have a hell of a time...somebody else probably wouldn't even try it. So, somebody who never played Goldeneye probably wouldn't play it now.

Nostaligia only works if the person has experienced it in some capacity in the past, Donnelly obviously hadn't experienced Goldeneye until last week and he still loved it... Argument flawed.

      Ah, I misread it.

Didn't actually believe classic games would stand the test of time with people that haven't played it before, to be honest. Hell, even I who played it, can't find it that appealing nowadays.
