Dragon Quest: Remakes are now offical

SSJ3 Trunks | May 21, 2008 | News | DS
Yes, the highly popular series Dragon Quest is now getting its turn of remakes for the DS. The remakes will come in a trilogy of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Dragon Quest games. The new games will have nice, slick graphics and one of these games has never been to the US before!

The first remake is set to be released on September 16, 2008.
Some of you avid role-playing-game aficionados might remember that back in 2007, Square Enix announced its intention to remake a trio of back-catalog Dragon Quest titles on the Nintendo DS with slick new coats of paint and colorful, cartoonish presentations.

Although the project has largely been MIA in the months since, a few sharp-eyed Internet readers happened to notice yesterday that a new website had gone up over at Square Enix's North American branch promoting the first of these remakes. Less than 24 hours after that fact comes the official announcement of localized North American releases for all three titles.

Collectively known as the "Zenithia Trilogy," the remakes are entitled (in order): Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, and Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie. Only one of these games -- Dragon Quest IV -- has actually ever been released in North America before, so those gamers curious as to what exactly Enix was up to in the time period prior to Dragon Quest VIII will now have a chance to find out. The first game in the trilogy is set to hit stores on September 16, 2008.

Correction: both V & VI have never been released outside of Japan. So it's a double treat for us all.

Why don't they put all of them on one cartrige?

Probably because they're being fully remade rather than dumping the NES-SNES files onto a DS cart. If that were the case, it would surely fit. But when Square Enix do remakes, they use up as much space as they can possibly get.

I've never played Dragon Quest, but they look pretty cool, so I'll check em out probably.

Why release all 3 at the same time though?

Because they're being worked on and released one by one by a single developer. Now for worldeide, they could purposely hold the games back until the Japanese versions and American/European translations to be done. But then again, people got pissed at SSBB being held back to be fully finished, and just wanted the game right away no matter the flaws.

EDIT: Oops, I read your question wrong. They're not being released at the same time. They're just confirming all three being released outside of Japan, with an official date for IV.
