Pokemon MMO being pitched to Nintendo

chautemoc | May 24, 2008 | News | Wii
It's a long shot, but inde developer Nnooo (developer of WiiWare's Pop), is in the process of pitching a Pokemon MMO to Nintendo.

The company's website simply states: "We have a concept for a cool Pokemon MMORPG."

Several other ideas are in the same status as well, including an online 007 title, an X-Men MMO, and one for Battlestar Galactica.
While it's highly doubtful such a small company could develop the product, there is the possibility that Nintendo will buy it out and supplement its workforce.

That is, unless Nintendo isn't actually working on a Pokemon MMO. Given the obvious possibilities of wandering around challenging players and collecting Pokemon, we'd be surprised if Miyamoto hadn't got a few people locked away somewhere working on it.

Unfortunately, an MMORPG requires players communicate, which Nintendo really isn't big on. I really doubt this project will ever be more than a pipe dream, at least for the foreseeable future.

well said. In the event that nintendo would ever have anything to do with an mmo title, the player interactions would probably be stunted quite a bit, ruining the experience.

plus who the hell wants to play a game online with a bunch of 10 year-olds?

Nintendo would probably just implement a text list that you choose from. Which sucks. Hard.

Meh, while I think it has potential (well, if Pokemon is still popular a few years down the road, I'd like to see a 3D mmorpg), I'm more interested in a 3D (perhaps Wii based) Pokemon game that is actually about catching the monsters and such. You know, a 3D, more advanced version of the GB/DS games....

        I wouldn't mind a 3D Pokemon MMO too.

I'm not a big fan of the Pokemon games, but being able to travel the world in 3D while catching Pokemon would be pretty fun.

Though I can do without the little kids screaming insults at me. It's bad enough on XBox Live, I'd hate to hear the kids on Wii.

As if regular MMOs weren't bad enough. Now the servers are going to be overrun with the little kiddies.

This sounds like quite possibly the worst idea...

    Ever.

Yeah, this would be lame. I love the pokemon games, but playing online with a bunch of faggot 6 year olds would make me quit the game in 5 minutes and take it back.

Oh god could you imagine this? If on the small chance Nintendo actually let you type anything other than preset messages onto the screen the world would be flooded with noobs saying "HEALZ PLZ, HOW DO U FISHS?, GIVE MONEZ TO A NOOBZ"

Whatever you Pokemon fans have to say a lot of Pokemons demographic are children, no successful community could be formed from these people

This could be cool if they had two servers. A cool complex one for smarter players and then the lame one for your three year old brother.

And how well do you think that would work? The little kids would all just say they are old enough to go to the big kids server and they would just overpopulate it. And if you put an age restriction on it they would just lie about their age.

    I would definately be interested.

As whether it would happen, probably doubtful (but I suppose if GTA is working on it, who knows).

I know this would be popular with lots of the kids, but I don't think it will work well, unless they put a lot of work in to it.

This game would be a dream come true for a few friends of mine. But the strange thing is it would need to be 3d and more like the Anime/Manga to be succesful. If it was like the games more than likely it would epic fail because of people training and then taking everyone else out. What i would like to see is a mostly player controled world have the Elite 4 and the Gym leaders and the Champion all be players (or bots in the beginning) and don't just have a pure HP system. Something like a Fatigue/Hp system Attacking and getting damaged lowers fatigue but fatigue recovers and once your Poke's Hp goes down to near death you are given the choice to let it fight or withdraw it a call your opponent the winner of the round. Make the Legendaries impossible to catch unless a masterball is used and if you fight them the stats go beyond the normal so you would have to switch out just to try and take one down and capture it. Faintig a wild pokemon doesn't mean you can't catch it once it faints your given the option of trying to catch it with a high success rate. Customizable Trainers! (Hats Optional! Scarf Optional!) Ablility to ride pokemon around instead of walking/bikeing everywhere.

....wow.....I prob forgot something but thats mostly it that would be good for it....
