For the month of May, Nintendo once again held the North American video game industry sales in the palm of its hand. According to the May sales figures released by NPD, Nintendo's DS remained the top selling console at 423,000 units. The Wii manged to take second place with sales of 338,000 consoles. Sony's PlayStation Portable meanwhile managed to the beat the rest of its next-generation brethren with sales of 221,120 units compared to the 154,900 Xbox 360s and 81,600 PlayStation 3 consoles sold.

Regardless of the standings of each console, the combined May hardware sales proved to be the biggest factor in increasing industry sales by 49 percent. Console hardware sales themselves increased by 79 percent compared to last year, while software sales grew by 31 percent. Wanna guess which game remained the top seller last month?

Hmm. I'm surprised the PSP is selling better then both the XBOX 360 and the PS3.

Those are the sales for Just May.

The funny stat that doesn't appear on here is that GBA is selling a few thousands units under PS3.

I'm not surprised. I knew Wii would be a big hit from day one.

Good to see that the Wii is doing so well, I really didn't expect so many people to buy Mario Party 8 or Pokemon Diamond but I guess many people liked them.

Diamond was obvious to people number 1. MP8 I knew would be a top seller.

And Nintendo dominates the top 2 places again.

    Not surprising in the slightest.

With the next gen Pokemon games out, as well as a new Mario game? How could the others compete? They couldn't.

Still, i'm shocked that Nintendo Stormed the list, but it's not surprising in the least, especially when you consider how successful they were back when they were classics. They're bound to do well, once again, and this just proves that.
