It's not everyday that you decide to meet someone online (okay it's becoming more and more frequent), however after reading the following, you may want to watch out who you meet online.

The top scorer of the online game GunBound was kidnapped yesterday by the "La Firma" gang in Brazil, and held at gunpoint. Forced into an internet cafe, he was then told to transfer his points, which were later sold on a website for $8,000.

His hopes of meeting the 19 year old "Tamires Rodrigues Vieira" were quickly dashed...

“Police arrested Vieira, along with other suspects Anderson Faquini, 19; Alexsander Kaiser Pereira, 27; and Igor da Silva Carvalho, 27. Police also seized a digital camera, a mobile phone,a laptop and other computer devices,” said Sun Yunlong of Xinhua News.

“OnGame stated that GunBound is one of the most popular online games in some Asian countries, and which was released in 2004 in Brazil, where it has 2.7 million registered users. Although the company forbids the trade of personal accounts, police have uncovered a black market selling scores for up to $2,700,” he said.

Jeez...yep, it's very difficult to know who exactly you are corresponding with. Poor kid, held at gunpoint. Who would believe a name like Tamires Rodrigues Vieira, anyways?

Hope that kid gets his points back.
