Having taken a lot of heat initially for including the Blu-Ray player in the PS3 (which also caused the price to increase), it seems that Sony's decision was most certainly justified, as Project Gotham Racing 4 for the XBOX360 was recently announced to exceed the DVD9's capacity. It seems that Sony have taken this news, and welcomed it with open arms, using this news as a way to somewhat rightfully "gloat" about the their future sense in including the Blu-Ray player with the PS3.

We took a lot of heat at launch for including Blu-Ray in PS3. Now it looks like that investment is being justified.

Next generation games simply need more space on the disc to contain all that high definition content. Take a look at Lair, for example, already pushing 25GB of content, and that is a first-generation title. At 50GB storage capacity, Blu-Ray gives the PS3 plenty of headroom for developers to fully realize their visions well into the future.

Blue-ray is definatly worth it since these year following are the years HD will grow and grow in popularity. Sony caught on before people could except it which is a very good strategy.

Have I not already read this artical a moment or so ago =/

Good to hear, and I dont blame them for gloating, to be honest I do think they made the right move in adding it towards to console.

Yeah, good investment Sony. I think it will pay off for them near the future too when bigger games arrive. Bigger games that will require more space than DVD9 could handle.

It would be funny as hell/awesome if Sony approached Bizarre Creations about creating a PS3 version of PGR4. Too bad I think they're owned by Microsoft or something.

Well you never know, it could happen. I mean Its there choice to make one or not on the PS3. And i think with that idea it could be possible.

I don't know why microsoft didn't opt for HD dvds rather than normal dvds for their games, with HD DVD it wouldn't have been a problem since they hold far more than normal dvds and nearly as much as a blue ray disk.

Really, they would have been better off using HD-DVD than DVD9.

Yeah, microsoft is going to start limiting their games, while the PS3's will grow and grow looking better and better... Many people will give in and end up getting a play station 3 just for the games alone.

Things are getting better for Sony.

Dickwad, that's the dumbest argument I've ever heard.

I know that I'm contemplating it, I'll wait for a price drop first.

And yet how many games will actually need that much space? Microsoft will be fine with what they have.

Not really actually, the statement Bizarre official released actually doesn't say anything differently than what was previously known. They said the exact same thing in a different way.

If you look at the screenshots posted in the other article, there are clearly two instances of a perfect night time environment on the bottom right.

It's not limiting them from creating the same effect. Sure, they can't just copy & paste the level and add a night sky, but obviously, that's not necessary.

Actually it looks like they just made that track always at night.

Microsoft won't be fine with what they have, if it becomes impossible to fit a decent game on the 360 third party support will drop

Your asking a big if there, what's not able to fit into PGR4 is a really small effect, nothing amazing just a nice add on, nothing that is going to turn people on or off of buying the game.

To be honest I think Microsoft is fine for now, however when the next console comes out I do believe a change is needed.

By the next console Blu-ray would probably be cheaper and a more widely used disc format, so we can assume that that's the route MS is taking.
