Will Final Fantasy XIII Be The New Final Fantasy VII?

You must be thinking... "What does the title mean". Well that's pretty simple, what I mean to say is, will Final Fantasy XIII be the game that rejuvinates the RPG genre and hits it big for the PS3 platform? Final Fantasy VII was the first game on the original Playstation platform, and it (very quickly) became one of the fastest (and most) selling titles on the Playstation's.

Can Square-Enix recreate that with Final Fantasy XIII? With such improved visuals, more disc space for the SE to use and not forgetting the Playstation 3's Cell Processor (if used) can do wonders for the game... so will Square be able to pull this off? What are your thoughts? Do you think it can even be done? Or do you feel that we'll get a great game, just not "as" great as Final Fantasy VII?

    It could... And Square Enix are using the CELL it is the only way they could render near pre rendered graphics in real time.

    FFXIII could very well be the new FFVII. But on the other hand, it might not be.

    I'm still waiting for Final Fantasy XI, because I refuse to acknowledge any "sequel" or "spinoff" released after X.

      What about FFXII? It was very much a numbered title, even if it lost part of the RPG element, I personally found the direction they took to be a great move, and hope that they stay on that path.

    All the people who made Final Fantasy great aren't part of Square-Enix anymore. I doubt it could be anything close to FFVII.

      If it was simply the people behind FFVII that made it great, then most of them (I believe) worked on FFVIII and FFIX as well, and so they too would have been great. Your not giving the team a chance, and do remember that this is the team that worked on FFX (my favourite FF to date)

    It's going to make more than good graphics to compare with VII, that's all I can tell you.

    FFXIII could be better than FFVII. You can't really say it will or won't be just yet though. All I can really say from watching the trailer and the information that has been released is.... it looks like it will be a good game

    Technically you can't compare FF7 to FFXIII, since there totally different games on different systems.

    I think FF13 will be one of the best PS3 titles to come out yes for sure, but i will not dear say compare it to my first FF and RPG game i ever played.

    Now FFX was completely stunning and revolutionized FF in that time, no doubt this will at this time.

    However Neto has a good point here. But as a game on its own rights i say its going to be a killer game.

      They wont be totally different, at the end of the day they will both be Final Fantasy RPG's, which in itself, means that it will follow a certain format (the game)

        I mean They won't have the FF7 element of storyline So they won't be the same, so you can't compare them. But The only thing they can be similar is the Final Fantasy title.

    I think it's possible. SquareEnix must have planned this all along. Release some love-hate titles and then bring out a big gun like FFXIII to get them on top again xD It's to help balance things out...like you would expect too much out of the next game, etc..

    Well, the game isn't coming out till like, late 2008 at earliest right? I heard 2009...

    I hope it is great of course, and naturally, I plan to get it as soon as it comes out...I hope it is great, and I'll probably like it more than FFVII (I played VII AFTER X)...

      Yes its not going to get release this game until late 2008. most likely in September, but then PS3 will have great titles as well.

    Well, I think FFXIII will have an 85% chance of being better than FFVII. Who knows? Maybe we will have to just wait and see...

    Because it was improved visuals and the extra CD space that made FFVII great? I think not.

    No-one knows if FFXIII will be good or not. It's only 13% complete.
    We barely have any information on the game... other than two characters, a "good side and bad side" to the world, and a rather odd looking battle system.

    It might be good. It might not be.
    We don't have enough information to tell.

    Mind you, I've been getting a little pessimistic about the FF series lately. I'm not the biggest fan of FFX-2 or FFXII, so I'm just crossing my fingers that Squeenix can create something better than those two games, let alone something better than FFVII.

      See finally you see my point of view on those games. When we first met you thought other wise(well FF12).
