With the recent announcement and future launch of the 40GB PS3 model, time is ripe for analysts to make their predictions on the games. Well, Daniel Dawkins, the editor of PSM3 Magazine, has made his prediction, and if it is to play out like he thinks, then Sony will be at the top once again. Selling twice as many consoles in the three months to Christmas as they have in the past 6 months since launch (well it's been around six months in the UK).

"Sales-wise, I'm pretty confident - and this will probably come back to haunt me - that Sony will sell at least as many machines in the three months to Christmas, as they have in the six months since launch. And, I suspect, possibly even double.

"Now is as good a time as ever to buy a PS3, and only months into the new year we've got the massive exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet and Killzone 2 to look forward to. Oh, and Gran Turismo 5. I honestly think we'll look back in six months and laugh at how Sony was perceived to be 'failing'.

"The PS3 is a complex, high-powered machine, hence the initially high price and lack of games - and both are changing for the better."

I dunno... I believe a lot of people are still going to wait for another price drop/cheaper model. It seems to be a trend- boycotting the PS3 till Sony makes it much cheaper. Heh...

    I agree.

This price cut is sure to put the PS3 on top. but it would take some time.

If this was an initial option, it would definitely be on top, but so many people have already bought 360s. It'll be a hard fight. Maybe.

Not enough... 11 million 360's... 125 million bought PS2's add that to the fact that the Xbox only sold 24 million in 5 years, means that right now the 360 isn't even on track to beating its predecessor in anyway, the PS3 is actually outselling both its predecessors at the same point in its life, so this price cut and new SKU will do nothing but improve their sales probably more than anyone will imagine.

As others have said, if Sony were to knock a decent amount off the price of the PS3 it would absolutely dominate the market, but because of the cost to make them and develop them I can't see that happening soon.

But the costs of the consoles have gone down quite a bit already, and with the newer model, it's affordable for many people now.

I really don't think it's going to be a hard fight. I think Sony is going to make a massive comeback. Time is something a lot of people have trouble being patient for and comprehending.

Everyone is too wrapped up in the now, this is true with a lot of things in life.

Well, with Haze on the way...I don't believe the sales will be that much of a problem. Newcomers will have the chance to buy Warhawk while they're at it as well. That's more than enough to get them through till the next games come out.

Wooo, the editor of the Sony magazine predicted that Sony will be doing great, I wonder if I can trust his word T__T. I still think Sony will still suck.

Says a non-PS3 owner using the sales as a justifiable way to judge the company itself, do yourself a favor and gtfo.

It's not the OFFICIAL Playstation Magazine you know, it's not like they're affiliated with it. And just creating magazines for it doesn't mean squat, he's going on trend and the fact that the PS3 has dropped in price.

That kind of ironic since your name comes from a PS2 game

I don't think we should be listening to someone who comes from a Sony magazine but I do think sales will pick up now that they've cut off a third of the price

A price cut and some really good game coming out, my crystal ball says its going to sell at a faster rate than it has been.

Yeah, there's no way it won't sell during the Christmas season. It might even help them in the fact that the Wii most likely won't meet demands. Parents don't like to give IOUs for Christmas so buying a PS3 in place of a Wii is feasible. But I'll still wait off buying one, unless someone gets me one for Christmas.

    Who cares to be honest.

Get the damn console you want. If you want both, get both, you cant lose with both.

I don't have time to buy two consoles, and I hate make something I own not worth it's money. Then theres the fact that if I get the wrong console then I wont be playing it much, and thus not making it worth the money.

Strong sales = More games on that platform = more chance of it being the correct platform

Might have been. I don't think it will because they dropped backwards compatibility.

Weren't they saying at the launch of the 360 that Sony wouldn't half-ass they're bc. But now they are scrapping it!?

Due to everyone bitching and complaining about the price. Sony is probably trying to think what the *bleep* you whining bastards want.

Judging from their "bitching and whining about the price", I think it's safe to assume what they "want" is a price cut

It's pretty apparent that they can't really give a satisfying price cut, obvious economic issues no one really cares about...but at least it comes with multi-game/controller packs, but not even that stops the bitching.
