A mysterious timer on a myseterious Japanese Site... what the timer is counting down to... well from the looks of it, a game... however what can be sure is that we'll find out in 57 hours, 40 minutes and counting (down)...

Also hear the voices... they sure sound English to me...

Badass. I'm such a whore for Sony's advertising department. Their shit is brilliant by my standards.

Maybe the new content for the store? Maybe there's something good there?

I find that Sony is being way too secretive as of late...especially when informing us of future releases. For instance, a game mentioned to be a great hit, a failed attempt at hype, and we get no information what-so-ever on it, just that it'll be released next year.

I think you fail at advertisement. Sony hasn't been creating the consistently best selling console each generation for the past 10+ years for no reason.

Advertising is one thing, keeping us in the dark is another. What is with all the hype building up for an announcement? Why have a timer? To attempt and get us talking? Perhaps they want to see what we think it'll be? They could have just asked.

Sony's PS2 barely had any 'secretive' advertisements like this...why not just announce it in three days instead of building this pathetic hype? And why use this method so frequently?

That's a method of advertisement dude.

Yes! Exactly! We're doing exactly what they want right now! Hahahaha, come on storm, how do you not see this?

Whether people are talking good about something or bad about something, it's just important that people are talking.

The PS2 had plenty of secretive announcements, it's just they all revolved around games since the PS2 itself couldn't be firmware updated with new features. Now with the PS3 it brings a whole new slew of things for Sony to update and be secretive and advertise about.

I don't remember a single secretive announcement from the PS2...at least not one with a good amount of information.

Sure, it's getting us talking, but all I'm saying is give us something! Anything...is it a game? A release date on Home? (although that's giving out too much), just tiny bit of information will do.

I'm sure you know about a game they are hyping up a year before release...with absolutely no information on. "Hey guys, I've recently been informed of a new title for the PS3 hitting shelves next year. I can't tell anymore details, but it will be a blast!"

That...is a downer for me. This form of advertisement just doesn't work for me, is all...I'd rather them not build the hype around it, because it's possible that the announcement could blow, and all that hype would be for nothing.

What are you talking about :s I don't see how they're not informing us of future releases. What do you think the website is for? Its a form of advertising, a way to increase the hype around the game.

      What failed attempt at hype?

Well clearly it's not for everyone, not the best form of advertisement. Silver Mirror put it in better words than I did.

That's just my point storm. It isn't for everyone, which is why some people will talk about it negatively and some will talk about it positively, that's to be expected. Like I said though, it's irrelevant, causing a stir, causing people to talk, causing people to get passionate about their opinions. It's all good for Sony in the end.

Thats what hype is for, Storm, it gets you talking. It creates attention automatically.

      Storm Apr 15, 08
Well yeah I know that iLLmatic, I'm just saying that...what the hell is there to talk about? All we can really say is, "I wonder what this announcement could be!" :/

I get were Storm is coming from, it's hard to get excited about something when you have no idea what it is. Even some catchphrase or statement would satisfy me, like "You've never seen a game like this before"

    iLLmatic Apr 15, 08
It doesn't necessarily have to be jump out of your seat excitement. Like jmac already said, this discussion RIGHT NOW is what this type of ad is for. We're all anticipating, keyword, anticipating, what it could be. I don't understand what the big puzzle is. Sony isn't the only company to use this type of approach.

I'm well aware that Sony isn't the only company to do this, and I'm not saying it has to be "jump out of your seat" news, I'd just prefer a bit of information instead, a clue to what it could be. Again, I'm not a fan of this kind of advertisement, plain and simple. This just reminds me of that game coming out next year.

Until three days, I've got nothing to anticipate, because I'm unaware of what to anticipate.

This type of Advertisement works most of the time than not. I prefer this advertisement. Cause if you know what it is and how its going to play there's nothing to talk about. It might not be your type of game, this sparks your interest in it, its like Christmas/presents you don't know what your getting but it must be good, if you've been good. No company releases info about a new game that will be good, hell when we heard of The Agency Last June we knew nothing on it, we barely know more now than we did then.

Same with Heavy Rain but at least we seen the pictures.

I honestly have no clue, but Sony is where it's at for me, always have been.

I hope it's the slimline and cheaper PS3

    I'm liking Kotaku's speculation ...

    quote
Our hatred of countdown clocks borders on the legendary, but at least this one has a little kick to it. It involves the sound of rain, horrific noises, people panicking, and red water droplets. My money is on a new Siren game. Both the first and second game were focused on blood-red water and both were scary as hell. Hit up the site and listen to the audio a bit and see if you don't at least get a few heebies, and possibly a jeebie or two.
Though if it is Siren 3, then it's nothing for us Westerners to get excited about. I doubt we'll be seeing any more Siren sequels over here.

    - - -

That's enough to get me hoping it's a survival-horror game. Blood and eerie noises ... it BETTER be a survival-horror game and not something totally random that has nothing to do with the creepy stuff that's on the screen. >_>

Part of me wants to say this is Heavy Rain, but I don't think that game is even touching Japan. So who knows?
