Since Left 4 Dead has been censored in Germany, it was only a matter of time before the box-art was censored too. Below is an image showing the original box-art (featuring a bitten-off thumb) and to the right is an image showing Germany's censored version (which includes the thumb).

It's certainly an odd change. Fair enough if they need to censor the artwork, but now it's just a picture of a regular ol' hand. Wouldn't it have made more sense to include the thumb, but add a bandage and a bit of blood onto it? ... To show something signifying a zombie's attack?

Interestingly, Dead Space's box-art, featuring a severed arm, has not been censored in Germany.

That's right. While every other region's box art shows a left hand with the thumb bitten off - zombies feast on the flesh of the living, you see, it's a joke - on the German version, the thumb's simply tucked in behind the hand there. No gore. How humourless.

This is really hilarious since people there can just, you know, go on THE INTERNET and look at the original photo eight million times if they want (and then, presumably, go chop off eight million people's thumbs).

Man, that's some hardcore stuff. I'm not sure how I'm gonna sleep tonight, what, with seeing whole hands with their thumbs tucked behind them and stuff.
