You probably all remember the infmous e3 05 killzone 2 trailer that turned out to be CGI when the public was told that it was real time. Well after that there were un reasonable expectations from Guerilla Games to prove that they can reach that level of graphics. In this gametrailers user created screenshot comparison you can see how well the game came close to looking like the CGI trailer. If not, the actual game looks better then the CGI pictures.

At E3 2005, Killzone 2 was debuted with a trailer depicting soldiers landing in a hostile war-zone on Helghan and fighting Helghast forces. Critics in the media argued that the trailer shown at the E3 2005 trade show did not show actual gameplay footage, as its high level of visual detail has been argued to be impossible to render in real-time on the PlayStation 3 and the audio mix of the trailer was slightly delayed. SCEA's Vice President, Jack Tretton, was quoted as saying that the Killzone footage, that was believed to be pre-rendered,"is possibly real" and "is real prerendered gameplay", but it was later claimed that Tretton was referring to Resistance: Fall of Man. Several days after the demo, Phil Harrison, SCEA Europe's VP of development, stated in an interview that all of the PS3 game footages at E3 2005 was "running off video" which was "done to PS3 spec" using "in-game assets" and "some things were rendered". the CG studio Blur stated in 2006 that they had turned down the offer to create the Killzone 2 clip, and that "a company in Scotland had worked on it"

well today Killzone 2 can be displayed in high definition 720p(may be it will be upscaled), locked at 30 frames per second.....the Killzone 2 uses a deferred rendering engine that integrates MSAA Quincunx ( which is multisample anti-aliasing even if this technique is not perfect :it has some issues like :
1-Aliasing and other artifacts are still visible inside rendered polygons.
2-Multi-pass rendering techniques may suffer when interacting with edges.
3-Since stencil values are still per-pixel according to the specification, some strange interactions can occur at the edges of polygons when using techniques such as shadow volumes.)
The Cell Processor will also parallel process geometry and indirect lighting....

i think the game looks really good and even near to the GC vision of 2005...

The 2008 game footage looks much better than the CGI, most definitely. Good job, Guerilla!

You're right red 9, it sure looks alot better. But the graphics only half inspired us on the e3 05 trailer, the half was done by its smooth and realistic looking gameplay. Where I must say the E3 05 trailer still rules supreme.

The 2005 trailer had dynamic perspective where the "player" view was turning all around and zooming and such, rather than focusing ahead like real gameplay does. Apart from that, it's the 2008 gameplay all the way.

There's not much to worry about, even online with a full room, the framerate hardly suffers. Maybe some minor hiccups here and there when in complete chaos but you don't notice it most of the time.

That is a very old comparison picture and it's not even high enough quality to make a fair judgement.

Yeah the quality is kind of bad, I think even so the new screenshots would still beat it.

Does anyone know which one was is supposed to be the new screen shots? I mean is it the left or right one?

    Left's old, right's new.

Presumably the old pictures are blurry for extra emphasis. It's hardly the best comparison.

The closeup of the gun is seriously impressive.

But then compare the environments in the third picture. It seems kinda obvious that there's tradeoffs going on.

I was thinking about that, but the right doesn't seem that polished either. But way better then the left though. Brings me back to the MGS4 comparison.

Somebody's spoiled on graphics, even considering the fact that KZ2 has the best graphics of any console game.

Besides, the right side pics are mostly off-screen shots.

No its not that, its just parts of the right is blurry and its not 100% clean. Thats all.

You can tell by the lighting effects that it's an off-screen shot (ie, taken with a camera). Look at the beta vids in the General PS3 forum; it looks better than this.

Also, there's obvious motion blur at some points in those shots.

CGI is pretty uch animations done on the computer and not running in realtime.

Either way the game looks pretty damn amazing. And we can only expect it get a full coat of polish by release time so I personally think GG achieved their goal, if not in some areas went beyond the CGI trailer.
