Not exactly mind blowing, but something which I found rather interesting. As many of you may know cosplay is huge in Japan, whether for anime, manga or videogames all are represented. So big is it in fact stores and companies exist soley to sell merchandise for such costumes, this one known as 9mm Special Effects deals specificly in contact lenses. Some examples from Naruto are attached, but check the site attached to the source for more.

Oh yeah, those are cool! I've never been one for contact lenses (I can't stand anything being against my eyes, even water) but those are just seriously awesome.

I'm wearing contacts and you really don't feel them once its on your eye. Trust me, its just a myth people bring out for no reason.

Those are... scary. I'd be freaked out if I saw someone walking down the street with those on.

HAHAHA Big_A I think I'd be the same way! Especially if I saw someone with that one with the circles inside each other . . . looks like a hypnotist spiral or something

I'd probably think the person was demon possessed or something if I saw someone walking down the road like that!

I was looking around the store.

Can anyone(Especially you Salvador Dog since you bought them) tell me power means under options when looking at a specific contact. The one I see has an option for "plano" power. I guess it could be "piano" but then the dot is connected, or is uppercase for some reason. Even if that were the case, it really still wouldn't make sense.

Anyway, the Mirrored ones are awesome, and I'd love to get an eye trauma one and pop it in when I'm at a friends house. I'd love to see their reaction. That's a hell of a lot of money for a simple gag though.

the mirrored lenses(which have the option of "plano"(which is an L btw)) just means that they can't be used as corrective lenses like most of the others.
because last time i checked you can't see through a mirror....nope you can't, just checked.

the answer to your power question.... power is the amount of corrective power they put into it, like real contacts.

Never heard of a two way mirror? Or how about mirrored sunglasses? Mirrors can be made to reflect out of only one side.

Damn you Koloth, that was thumb worthy

i need to remember things better. yes i have, i just thought those would be kinda thick and wouldn't fit inside lenses

I see, so since I don't need corrective lenses, I'd need plano.

*bleep*ing would love to own something like those. Can't be any worse than my own normal lenses...then again...they're not prescribed, so I'm kinda on the fence.

Hm, I thought they were rather cool to look at, but look at the price tags. I've talked to people who seem to have dedicated their lives to cosplay, as in attending nearly every convention in the US, spending God knows how much money AND time to each costume. Man, some hobbies just don't seem worth it.

Video game hobby is far more expensive, if you buy several consoles, peripherals and many games per year like 15. Some people think gaming isn't worth it.

I'm not attacking cosplayers, to be sure, just saying it all seems quite amazing to me. You made a horrible comparison anyway...

Companies don't come out with new consoles and peripherals every year, as opposed to yearly conventions. And unless you choose to reuse a costume, they can't be worn over and over again as opposed to a gaming platform (be it console or PC). Games can also be returned or resold. And considering costume prices can run between three to four digits, nevermind the cost of driving/flying to the location of each convention, room & board (since most of these people would stay for more than one day)... see where I'm going with this?

I had some trouble trying to decipher what that "15" in your comment was, and I now assume you meant 15 games? Assuming you own a PS3 or Xbox 360 and all your games cost $64 (that's including tax). 15 games a year at $64 each is still only $940. Those contact lenses are $100 or more each. Then add that to the REST of the outfit.

Note I'm not talking about someone who just cosplays a couple times per year, or every few years. I'm talking about the hardcore folks, as suggested in my original comment:

"...who seem to have dedicated their lives to cosplay..."

I'm sure there are more expensive hobbies out there. Cosplaying is just one of the few that totally boggles my mind.

You obviously never seen a hardcore console players room then. I know people who has a shit load of games dating back to the Atari and have literally thousands beyond of games and all the consoles that has been released. Packaged or opened. See I have practically all the consoles to date since atari, Although missing a few, I also have alot of games, although clearly nothing like those hardcore gamers. I also don't believe in returning games either. Not only do you not get alot of money back there is not point. And I tend to replay then anyway. Lets say you had atari and the rest of the consoles to date, with practically the entire library for them, how much money would you have spent on those, including peripherals? I'd say close to $100,000 if not more. Of course that would be 20 years time. Still I think at the end of the day you could argue gaming is right up there or equal to cosplaying in terms of money spent. Also the 15 was about games, but you know there's more then just 15 games out during a year, and I'm talking about the hardcore collector gamers who buy all games for some reason.

I know what you was saying in the post I replied, I just stated you can also say the same for games.

Granted, these types of gamers or collectors aren't widespread, sure, but again you could make the case that its similar.

Some people think Cosplaying is a waste of time and money, and some people feel the same about games. I think both are awesome, and glad they're apart of today's world.

          /sigh

This could go on forever, but it's not going to because I am walking away from this potential trap. We'll keep it at, "Some people like to cosplay as much as others like to game."

          Good day, sir.

Lol, I was thinking about contacts like these last night XD

Yeah, I'd like some of them, but damn, I wish I had normal vision, so I could just get non-corrective lenses >_>

I liked some of the anime ones a fair bit, but yeah, the other ones on the site were cooler (mirrored lenses FTW)....

It looks kind of freaky, but I have seen stuff like this, but with cat's eye style.
