Electronic Theatre hosts the work-in-progress cover artwork for the forthcoming Modern Warfare 2, part of the Call of Duty franchise from Activision.

As the hype gathers pace for what will hopefully be a grand presence at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next month, Modern Warfare 2 is receiving news updates and commentary almost daily, but the revelation of cover artwork – temporary or otherwise – clearly demonstrates Activision’s need to reassure the mainstream gaming audience that Modern Warfare 2 is the next Call of Duty release, in all but name.

I'm glad that's work in progress, the Modern Warfare 2 plastered over the centre looks awful imo.

    Actually it seems very eyecatching.

The whole Green totally sticks out rather than blend in and is a great way to attract ones eye.

Developers are always wanting to make an attractive (or at least an attention grabbing) boxart.

Does it help sales? Probably not, but hey they think so and whatever.
It sticks out (to me at least)

Perhaps it's gonna be a love it or hate it thing.

I also find it interesting that while it is a work in progress the placeholder rating is an 18. World at War which had it's fair share of violence only gained a 15 and so did the original Modern Warfare. I wonder if the new mature rating of 18 is what they are aiming for this time around.

I think they should just use a box that's all black, with the Modern Warfare 2 logo in the center. Simple, clean, and effective.

      Agreed, that would look sweet

    It certainly caught my attention.

Not sure if its the best designed game art ever, but it looks cool.

Though I do agree a pure black case with the logo on the front would have been sex.

    I like it.

It's pretty much the cover of the Game Informer magazine that featured the latest information of the game and I love that cover.

if the soldier wasn't blacked out and there was more going in the back it would be good, glad it's not the finished product.

I think it looks horrible to be honest... The logo clashes with the background horribly. The silhouette looks cheesy and doesn't really flow well with the dust. It'd look better if the person was just darkened with dust rather than completely blacked out. Also, the dust itself looks pretty unrealistic, like someone downloaded a crappy set of Photoshop brushes or something.

If they use the picture that TurMoiL911 posted, then it would be fine. That one basically solves all of my complaints.
